Paul Sidney,a Long Island,NY radio executive & air personality who for decades promoted the "fun & personality"of old style local radio, died Thursday after a long illness-He was 69-Until 2005,Sidney was the president & general manager of WLNG in Sag Harbor,NY-WLNG signed on the air in 1963-Up until a few years ago,WLNG played a mix of golden oldies & the latest hits-WLNG has since phased out the newer songs-Sidney used to boast that LNG has the largest record library,10,000 oldies-During his tenure at LNG,Sidney had his on-air staff do remote broadcasts & local features like "Pet Patrol"-Sidney collected numerous awards over the years-One was his induction into the NY State Broadcasters Hall Of Fame in 2007-Alot of stations that play older music are primarily featuring songs from the '60's & '70's-That's not the case with LNG-They still play music from the '50's-For those of you board posters who live outside the NY metropolitan area, log on to www.wlng.com & you can hear how top 40 radio used to sound.
