Over the last couple of years, I have really gotten into radio programs. When shows were sent out to radio stations on LP for airplay, how were they pressed so quickly and mailed out? For example, did Casey Kasem, Dick Clark, Rick Dees etc. record the shows immediately after the charts were released? Just curious if there was a week delay between the actual charts and airplay?

I'm not sure how it was in the past, but currently the charts are available well ahead of time. For example, the Hot 100 dated 2/14/09 was available on 2/4/09. Also, the current Mediabase charts are available about 2 weeks ahead of the AT20/AT10 airdate as well. For example, the chart dated 2/1/09 will air on AT20 2/15/09.
I'm willing to bet a similar delay was available back when the shows were still on LPs.

Billboard chart info is available every Thursday-Back in the day, when Casey Kasem hosted the original "AT40",the staff got an advance copy of the "Hot 100".

The true fans of "AT40" remember that when the show was launched on the 4th of July weekend in 1970,Casey counted down the songs from the following week's chart, which would've been from 7/11/70-This continued until the beginning of May 1971.
