This is far fetched (or is it?), but would be the most amazing show if they did it.
A special 8-hour AT40 history/tribute show with Casey as the main host. It would feature some highlights of the AT40 years (as well as some from the CT40 years). Many of these would be the ones in the AT40 book.
It would showcase 100 songs in chronological order (top 5 from each year), describing some of the historical events going on and some of the changes in the countdown as well as the musical fads, etc.
They could bring back some of the more notable guest hosts and have Shadoe and Ryan do some commentary in the show's segments that feature their years (with Casey still at the main healm). It would also feature the #1 song for each year according to AT40 (with a drumroll for each).
When? December, 2010.
AT40: 40 years in 8 hours!!!
Maybe we can somehow even make this happen. Who knows??? This would be absolutely amazing!!!!

Wonderful idea...a total of maybe 5 radio stations would air it.

Anything is possible-perhaps it could be a TV special of some kind if not feasible for terrestrial radio (while some stations would not choose to air it because of their playlist restrictions, there are probably many others who would). Perhaps Sirius XM, once they get their heads on straight, would be interested.
"40 years of AT40"-a special along the lines of the AT40 Bicentennial Special of July 1976 would work good (they did the #1 4th of July songs from the past 40 years). I really think the members of this group should pursue the idea proposed by jedijake and arouse enough interest to make this a reality.

Didn't they do a special show once in the beginning of 2000 when Casey talked about like the history of rock and roll or whatever?

That was the Y2K special and it was the 40 days that changed pop music.

An All-Time AT40 History Tribute show sounds awsome. That cool if it was pulled off.

As for the All-Time American Top 40 Tribute, that would be a really great idea and if it ever gets created, will be very enjoyable indeed!

Maybe they could work in all of the old AT40 themes and jingles from the show's history throughout the special (For example, using a different AT40 opening theme for each hour.) I hate to throw more cold water on this, but you guys do realize Shadoe Stevens has been pretty much deleted from AT40 Hosting history right? And you also realize he himself is pushing 70 too, right? I don't see anyone doing any 8 hour AT40 radio or tv special. Seems like we had a discussion about a historical type program back in 2005 when they did an AT40 TV show and Ryan hosted it, Casey intro'd one act, and it was basically a music show. The general consensus was no one would but us would tune in for a televised history show, a few would for the radio show, but the problem is very few, if any stations would carry it. Truth be told, most don't want to air the shows now. Thats why when they get the chance to drop them, they do. It's a nice idea, don't me wrong, but it will probably always be just that...an idea.

You are probably right. I did not account for (a) a general lack of interest in the charts these days and (b) the VAST difference in style of music
What station would play both "Tie A Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Ol' Oak Tree" and "Yeah"

Actually, Shadoe Stevens is 62. Not yet what I'd call "pushing 70". I do think he is underrated as a host, as he did a fine job in that position and worked hard to prop up a show that was declining in listenership. But for reasons mostly beyond his control the number of stations and listeners declined during his tenure until AT40 was canceled for a few years, and so he tends to be unfairly dismissed or overlooked in AT40 history (from what I've read from Premiere and the official current AT40 line, if I didn't know otherwise I'd think that only Casey Kasem and Ryan Seacrest have ever regularly hosted the show.) An AT40--at 40 (that could be a cool title) 8 hour show is a great idea, though (12 minutes per year?), although if it ever became reality it would probably be split into two four hour shows; apparently radio stations don't have the same sort of patience today as they once did, noting how Casey's (both old and new) and Ryan's recent year end countdowns were split over two weeks.

Personally,I think a retrospective would work-Casey could have special guests such as Don Bustany, who co-created "AT40"-Perhaps Don & Casey could tell some amusing anecdotes-I think Premiere should consider doing such a show.

If he is 62 then whatever I read a few months back must have had his birthday wrong. I could swear after reading the article I thought he would be 70 in a year or two.

The Durkee book lists Shadoe's birthdate as in 1946; Wikipedia says 1947. Either way, he's in his early 60s; I haven't seen any source giving another date.
