I think I also have a AT40 Top 100 of 1988 and 1987 copied from FM-100 in Memphis (but it omitted "I Want Your Sex" by George Michael due to the fact the radio station thought it was not appropriate. How very wimpy of FM 100. I figured Q-102 in Cincinnati was probably the only station in the whole country to delete the George Michael song from AT40, but even Q-102 deleted it from only the regular weekly shows, not the year-end show. You'd think a big city like Memphis would be able to handle having a song like that played on the airwaves, but I guess the self-appointed guardians of morality at FM 100 deemed that this was not to be. Even in a mid-sized city like Davenport, Iowa, they didn't delete the song. I heard AT40 there on a vacation.

I fully agree with you and I was a bit glad that FM 100 gave it up in 1989 and Z-98 took it over. Z-98 was more progressive and even played the Humpty Dance in the Top 100 of 1990.
Memphis even had a censorship board until the early 1960s. Certain movies could not be played in the theatres. As a result, Memphis has been behind the times until 10 years or so ago.

I have boxes full of old cassettes from the late 70s - early 80s weekly shows that my wife keeps bugging me to throw out. (KGOR - Omaha). I would normally hit pause before and after the commercials, however. I used to religiously tape the year-end countdowns. We would have parties in college where we played it back on cassette and filled out a wall chart between beers.
I can't imagine that any of these old tapes would be preferable to copies off of the records, although I suspect some of them still sound alright.
P.S. I started getting the year-enders on CD and got about half of them. I know there is no trading site anymore, but I would sure like to be able to find the rest. (nebmccoys@cox.net)

If you are interested in converting those tapes to mp3s, which I just did, go to dak.com. They've got a great editor and mixer that is specifically set up to work with your PC--it has been a blast for me listening to the shows while they are converting!
