... and I really liked it. Each and every song was introed and outroed by Casey, and it felt much like the year-end shows in the mid 80s with tons of stats and trivia, so you'd learn about:

The Top Female Artist of 2008
3 songs that bubbled under and never made it to the Top 20
The show includes even a drop-piece of one old song
The Woman with the Most #1s on the Pop Chart so far this decade
The biggest selling single by any of American Idols
Top Teen Duet of the Entire Decade
The Biggest Country Crossover Act of 2008 and more...
including the sales of particular singles (gold, platinum...).

For me, not just well done, excellently done.

Thanks for supplying the list, Robert. Hmm, they are deviating from the Mediabase year-end list. I haven't been following AT20 year-end shows that closely in the last couple of years. Is this the first time since 2004 that the AT20 staff have come up with their own list of songs for the year-end countdown?

I know in 2007, AT20 used its own ranking ("It's Not Over" was #1 on that).

This seems to be a pattern with Mediabase; what Casey or Ryan counts down on air is not necessarily the same as what is published, something I've noticed for the regular weekly countdowns as well.

Well, during the show Casey said that this is the year-end ranking based on the official airplay data provided by Mediabase 24/7, but neither he said it is the official year-end ranking compiled by Mediabase, nor he mentioned any USA Today airplay charts this time.

As long as I know Casey's year-end rankings have been always slightly different from those by Mediabase linked by some fans under other threads on this messageboard at the end of year time - at least over the past few years.

Nonetheless, I guess I've seen e.g. Ferras didn't make the Top 60 on the Mediabase official YE chart, but I was glad to hear it as the 59th hottest hit on AT20's YEC. It spent several weeks on the countdown. So maybe they calculated their own but I haven't tried to check it out with one of those points methodologies such as 30 points for #1, 19 for #2 etc, and so on with 1 point for a week spent at #20. And it might not be as easy to do, when you have three songs that just bubbled under but so long that they gathered enough spins to make it to the Top 60. In fact, this is what Casey said, so they should have used numbers of spins in rankings.

Anyway, if you check out the charts at allaccess.com they provide rolling charts as well as published charts and even though at least over the past several weeks of 2008 their published ranking for HAC usually matched the USA Today airplay charts, I don't fully understand all nuts and bolts of the differences between them.

By the way, those three songs that just bubbled under throughout the year should be:
Pani At The Disco - Nine In The Afternoon
Good Charlotte - I Don't Wanna Be In Love (Dancefloor Anthem), and
Miley Cyrus - See You Again.

I suspect that AT20 uses their station affiliates to calculate spin totals for each song, just like what AT40 does.

Is there any way to hear AT20 streaming online? I cannot, for the life of me, find a station that either still carries it or streams online so I can listen to it. I went with the entire list on AT20 affiliates and either the streams don't work or the station no longer carries it.

AT20's year-end chart for 2008 started with January 1 and ended November 14 (the week before the cut-off date for the Mediabase PDF chart). The PDF chart includes data from December 2007. That data is not used on AT20's year-end countdown, just the data starting with January 1. The year-end countdowns on AT20 for 2006 and 2007 also started with January 1; the cut-off date for '06 on AT20 was the week before the PDF chart whereas the cut-off date for '07 on AT20 was the same week as the PDF chart. I hope this explains the difference between the Mediabase PDF year-end Hot AC charts and AT20's year-end charts.
