I don't think that many of you are interested in American Top 40 with Ryan Seacrest. But, please be advised that they are counting down the Top 100 songs of 2008, Part 1 (#100 - #51), this weekend. Btw, so is also the case for Rick Dees Weekly Top 40. You can listen to the Part 1 of Top 100 Songs of 2008 here: www.rick.com/deesvision/loader.cfm?st=WTF_CHR

Well, I do try to listen to Ryan's top 40 at least in part every Sunday, though I have to square it with Casey's 70s rebroadcast (on at the same time here, though not in the Christmas season) and also often church or other activities as well. As I've said before, I think it's a good show that would be great if they cut out the extraneous material and concentrated more on the countdown and music. (Lately AT40 has called itself "Your source for everything entertainment"; I'd be satisfied with it just being my source for the 40 biggest hits of the week.) But thanks for the heads up, though I think it would be a better idea to wait a week and split it between the weeks after Christmas and New Years (if the stations won't run it in one eight hour block, as earlier editions of AT40 often did at year's end.)

Unfortunately, that's not the same chart posted now at at40.com (which only has 51-100 up so far.) I wonder what's with Mediabase that they seemingly put out two different charts each week; Ryan tells us to look the charts up in USA Today, but those are often not the same songs in the same positions as what he counts down on air. Unless the one in the paper is supposed to be the next week's chart, I don't see the reason for the inconsistency. Also, at40.com doesn't treat the year end chart as a special chart; it's listed as the continuation of last week's survey, so it looks as if most songs just jumped back onto the list and, among other things, that Katy Perry's "Hot and Cold" plunged all the way from #1 to #54.

That is the actual chart, the one listed above, as I just listened to my recording of the show.

I compared the chart I provided above and what at40.com lists. Apparently, they forgot to list the actual #100 song, so song #99 was listed as #100, #98 as #99 and so on. Wonder what they will do when they find out they have an "extra" song to fill in. AT40 rankings don't follow USA Today's list because 1. AT40 uses a non-recurrent rule and 2. their spins totals are based on station affiliates subscribing to AT40.

Yeah. That's pretty weird. They should fix that so it would not look like that, since they should know that it is a year-end chart.

Wonder what they will do when they find out they have an "extra" song to fill in. Looks like they corrected that mistake by moving Daughtry's "Feels Like Tonight" up from #51 to #50. Everything else on this week's list (#1-50) matches what I heard and what you listed.

The question is, did Ryan treat it like a year-end countdown (I haven't heard it so I don't know).

Did anyone record this year-end countdown and 2007's? I can try to set up a trade.

I recorded both, but my 2007 show has a few issues: Hot99.5 screwed up the show a few times by playing the wrong segment and thus I have a few "holes" in last years show. This years show you can listen to on "Imeen" lemme see if I can find a link........ ok here it is: www.imeem.com/people/HK2kfuActually it looks like he hasn't uploaded the show yet but he said he is working on it.

Is it me, or does it seem like Ryan's AT40 is pretty much a regular radio show you'd find on a typical big-city morning show with an occasional mention of a song's position?
In other words, it's as if the actual top 40 part of the show is background music to Ryan's showcase of all the people he knows in Hollywood and their stories. (many of whom have nothing to do with the top 40)

Frankly, I think the charts listed in R&R would be ideal to use for the countdown. Why? Because - guess what - they don't use recurrent airplay in their tabulations! That's right, my friends, they only use charted weeks. Therefore, songs that barely even charted within the chart year don't make it onto the list, or if they do, just barely. Yes, I know that AT40 doesn't have a recurrent rule, but so what?
Yes indeed, today's countdown shows just don't hold much fascination for me anymore. Guess it's a sign that I'm becoming an old fart!
