Hi all,
I have question about Casey's top 100 of 1990. Most years, Casey did the top 100 of the year in two weekends and put the regular show on break for two weeks. In 1990, WSPK in Poughkeepsie, NY aired part 1 of the top 100 on Dec 22 and part 2 on Dec 29. However, WHTZ in New York City aired the entire top 100 on Dec. 29 in an eight hour special. I have NO IDEA what WHTZ aired on Dec 22 because the regular show was on two week holiday break. So here are my questions. How did your radio station handle the top 100 of 1990? Did they break it into two weeks or air the entire top 100 as an eight hour special on Dec 29th? If they did air the eight hour special, what did they do on Dec 22? Was their no Casey's Top 40 for that week? I've always wondered about that.
thanks!!
Brian

I don't listen to Z-100 in New York at all because I don't relate to the music they play-At my age (50),I listen to adult contemporary & greatest hits/oldies-In any event,Z-100 evidently doesn't play the YE "AT40" countdown over the holidays-Instead,they present their own YE countdown with a local air personality-I guess you have to find another affiliate in your area that carries the "AT40" YE countdown-The official "AT40" website will direct you in that regard.

WAPE (then Power 95) in Jacksonville aired the shows as normal. Dec. 23 they ran the first part, Dec 30 they ran the second.

Its my understanding that the year enders took place in ONE! week. At least during the AT40 years. I can't speak for the 70s but I know in the 80s and even into Shadoe Stevens run, the top100 was fit into just ONE weekend and the station had to alot and xtra 4 hours for the show. 8 hours
Caseys top 40 was a different animal, an as this is the Westwood one forum, I thought I should just mention the above anyway. CT40 did break up the show into part 1 and 2. Some stations would air it normally, xmas = part 1, newyear = part2. Others would air nothing on x-mas, and run the whole show either during its REGULAR slot on newyears, or air it entirely on new years eve or new years day and make it some sort of 'event'. And I should mention, that it wouldn't necessarily happen every year. I guess it was just based on the whims of the P.D. (of course on-air talent or lack there of may have had somethin to do with it["It's x-mas and I want 2 weeks off"]) Some stations would air part 1 and 2 seperatly and STILL air the whole show on either NY Eve or NY Day. I dont recall what happened here in DC, as CT40 was only here for 1990 & 91. I think most of the "fringe" stations I would hear the show on after that broke it up into 2 weekends.
After Casey went back to AT40, I would listen to it on Q94 in Richmond. One year, I think it was 2001, they aired part 1 as they normally would, but then the next week aired part 1 and part 2 back to back. And that was the only year they did that! Every other year it was broken up into 2 parts. The only exception to that was 2003 in which they aired part 1 twice, in back to back weeks. They claimed they never received part 2. To this day I've never heard part 2.
NOw playing on this theme, I recall a few times w/ Rick Dees on station Z104......when they were strickly a Frederick, MD station, one year they aired WT40 as they normally would w/ part 1 and 2 broken up over the 2 weeks, but also aired the entire 8 hour show on New Years eve. Later, when Z104 became one w/ 104.1 and 103.9, in 1998?!? I wanna say, they did the same thing again only I think it was aired on New years day that time. Star 94 in Atlanta does this also.

The decisions of how to run the shows was also based in many cases on a couple of other issues as well. Back before shows were downloaded, I know one year 99.9 Kiss FM in Daytona could NOT air part 1 when it was supposed to air because with the holidays, they never received the show in the mail. They ended up airing the entire show the next weekend on both Saturday and again on Sunday.
Another situation that may have played into the decision is when did Christmas day fall. Not sure if most still do this, but back in the 90's I am sure most Top 40 stations like mine would air Christmas music pretty much all Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. If those fell on the weekend, they may not have aired CT40 because of this which may have played into the decision to run the whole show together at a later time.
