I have a few countdowns in the 70's where AT40 played the "B" side of the 45 by mistake in the program. I should note that these were not double-sided hits when this happened and Casey actually announced the title of the"A" side when the "B" side song began playing and when it ended. I was just curious if anyone else noticed this.
I'm still trying to get through all of the old posts so forgive me if I am repeating information that has already been discussed.

In Rob Durkee's book "American Top 40:Countdown Of The Century",he mentions that when Shadoe Stevens took over for Casey Kasem,he played the B-side of a Guns & Roses song by mistake.

Back in 1976,when Casey played all the songs that had topped the charts during the Fourth Of July,he announced that Ozzie & Harriet Nelson had a #1 song called "Says My Heart" in 1938,in which Harriet was the featured singer-However,the flip side "Whoa Babe" was played by mistake-"Whoa Babe" was an instrumental.

I've listened to this a few times on Reelradio. However, I was not alive in 1976 and I rarely listen to songs that are 60 to 70 years old so I likely would not have noticed it initally.

For real? This one I have to hear to believe. How would you like to have your very first Top 40 single eligible to be played on AT40, just to discover that the first two weeks in the Top 40 the wrong side of the single is played? This actually happened! No wonder the song didn't spend much more time in the Top 40. Name the group and song. A good trivia question for you AT40 experts. Anyone know the answer?

According to both Rob's book and Pete's book; on the 9/18/71 show, "I Ain't Got Time Anymore" by Glass Bottle debuted, but the B side "The First Time" was played. The same mistake was made on 9/25/71. AT40 finally got it right on the songs last week in the 40.

"Ain't Got Time Anymore" is a great song and too bad it only had one week of exposure on AT40.
