I am listening to the 10/26/02 AT40 show. This was the weekend before Halloween in 2002, and Casey told various stories and re-worded some of his catch phrases for the holiday "we're counting down the 40 hauntingist hits in the USA", etc.
In Hour 3, Casey played "Monster Mash" as an AT40 extra. I know he does this nearly every year on Halloween weekend (and I hope he does this weekend)
My question is....would "Monster Mash" be 'allowed' on CHR radio in 2005. And an even bigger question, do you think this caused problems 3 years ago in 2002? I vividly remember listening to this show air (it aired the Saturday morning of my 11th Grade Homecoming, one of my biggest memories of high school, and I vividly remember listening to AT40 that morning). And I remember thinking "whoa, Monster Mash on CHR radio" even back then! But at the same time I applauded Casey and AT40 for putting it on.
Main question... would this fly today, or would there be problems with PD's? And do you think there were any problems in 2002?

Again, I cant speak for every market and wouldnt dare to. But in the very same year you are talking about, 2002. I listened to WAPE all day on Halloween and I heard "Thriller", "Werewolves of London" and "Monster Mash" in the course of the day on the radio station.

My guess is that on Halloween, that sort of a "novelty" record is OK once or twice, even on a tightly-formatted CHR show. They probably played it on their morning show that day, too.

no, actually none of them were played on the morning show. They were played throughout the 10am-5pm day.

I think the PD's at these CHR station should play the song. I mean, its Halloween for crying out loud. Who cares if the songs came out in 1962, just play the song.
