On several first shows of July throughout the years, Casey would open by noting this anniversary, specifically mentioning "American Top 40" in the years he was with the show. (1970-Aug 1988 and Mar 1998-Jan 2004). During the Casey's Top 40 years( Jan 1989-Feb 1998), Casey would refer to the anniversary of "counting down the hits" without naming either show
Among these anniversary notifications, 1999 stands out in my opinion. Casey noted the beginning of the 30th year of AT40 by playing the first minute or two of the first show in 1970 and afterwards saying "that's the way it sounded then and this is the way it sounds today" followed by the 1999 version of the AT40 intro. Another is the CT40 show for this week in 1990. Casey announced then that "i'm 21"-stating that this was the beginning of his 21st year of counting down the hits.
It's going to be interesting to hear how Ryan celebrates the anniversary of American Top 40 for this year (the beginning of the 39th year of counting down the hits or the 38th anniversary of American Top 40)

For those that want to hear the very first AT40 show, it will be aired on XM in 2 weeks (July 19th, repeated July 23rd) Actually it will be the 5 year anniversary replay from 7/5/75, so it won't exactly be the original, but close enough I guess.

I was wondering when XM was going to get around to airing that show-That first show featured four "AT40 Specials":"Little Old Man"-Bill Cosby,"Hello,Dolly" by Louis Armstrong,"Spinning Wheel" by Blood,Sweat,& Tears,& "Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones-The version that aired a year ago on terrestrial radio deleted "Little Old Man".
