Perhaps this has been brought up before, but I'll ask anyway-What is the likelihood that Premiere will air the four-hour countdowns which ran from 10/7/78 to 12/29/79?

Premiere had aired the Oct. 14, 1978 show, as well as the two-part year-end countdown from 1978 (airing over the weekends of Dec. 23 and 30, 1978). So it HAS happened, but as to the future of these shows, I don't have a crystal ball. And that's despite Premiere's Web site page for "AT40: The 70s" stating that shows aired are from 1970-1978.
I've said it before ... there are certain shows that are of interest to listeners, such as the July 7, 1979 "Disco Hits of the Hot 100" show and the 1979 year-end countdown. (I'd also add in the Jan. 5, 1980, show, which was the "Top 50 Hits of the 1970s" episode). But I just don't feel good about those chances, even though I would just LOVE to hear one of these four-hour shows ... even with some editing to get these shows to three hours.

I believe XM DID air the top hits of the 70s show. I think I even recorded it somewhere....

XM aired the Top 50 of the 1970s as the last show of the August 2006 Marathon.

I think mrjukebox is speaking of the Premiere "AT40: The 70s" which air on terrestrial radio, not XM. XM has, as I understand it, aired several AT40s from 1979, but none to date have surfaced on terrestrial radio.

Good news-This weekend (7/5-7/6),we'll be hearing the special countdown from 7/7/79,in which Casey Kasem counted down the 40 biggest hits of the disco era-According to Scott Lakefield,it will be the full four-hour show from back in the day-See my post about a Cleveland radio station that aired something completely different that weekend-It's in the section "AT40-The 70's-This Week's Show".

The Baltimore affiliate that runs AT40-the 70s, which only allots a 3-hour time block for it, just jumped into the 1979 special countdown at #30, cutting off the first hour altogether. I'd like to hear the shows from the last 15 months of the decade, but that was not a very good solution IMO. Guess maybe I'll just have to spring for satellite?

I hope there woould be more of these 78/79 shows. Haven't heard any of the regular countdowns from 1979. The last time they aired the Top 40 disco tunes, there were several stations that played the entire 4 hour show. Even if they play only the top 30 like the flashback shows, it is still better than nothing. Cutting several songs short to fit it in 3 hours like the Oct 78 show is Ok by me too.
