This leads to the trivia questions, how often has Casey been absent for two consecutive weeks? The last time was in March 2002 when Ed McMann filled in for two weeks straight. I know it happened once in the 80s with Charlie Van Dyke, and I believe once during the run of the Westwood One shows. Anyone know for sure? Scott? Pete? Hopefully Casey will be back countin 'em down next week. Rob Durkee's book "American Top 40 the countdown of the century" says THREE times Charlie Van Dyke filled in for Casey two weeks in a row. 1/5/85 and 1/12/85 7/11/87 and 7/18/87 1/9/88 and 1/16/88

R&R split the CHR chart into pop and rhythmic charts. The R&R year-end list was combined, while CT40's was just based on the pop charts. Although Radio & Records split the CHR chart on April 22, they also published combined CHR chart along with the indivisual pop and rhythmic charts throughout 1994. From 1995, they stopped publishing the combined chart. R&R's 1994 year-end ranking was a combined one. Casey's Top 40 exclusively used the pop chart after R&R split the CHR chart. And CT40's year-end ranking based only on the pop chart.

AT40 run for "All I Want For Christmas Is You": 12/24/94: #36 01/07/95 (used the 12/31 chart): #23 01/14/95 (used the 1/7 chart): #9 Thank you for your info, mstgator. The song hitting top 10 on AT40 never entered R&R's top40. How different !

After American Top 40 changed charts from Billboard's Hot100 to an airplay chart in Dec.1991, fewer songs were charted than before. More songs were charted on Casey's Top 40 (which used Radio & Records chart at that time) than on AT40. There were many songs which charted on CT40 but did not on AT40. On the contrary, were there any songs charted on AT40 but did not on CT40 ? I know one example. House Of Pain's "Jump Around" never charted on CT40 in 1992, but it did appear on AT40. Do you know any other song ?
I do know that they combined the points for both versions for the year-end chart, and I think it ranked somewhere in the 40s.
I checked the year-end ranking of 1990, and found Billboard did not include "Unchained Melody" in the top 100. While AT40 compiled their own rankings, and they ranked the song at #39. I assume AT40 combined the points for both versions. Did Shadoe have any comments when he introduced the song ?

Back in 1990, thanks to the movie "Ghost", Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody" hit again. Along with the original version, Righteous Brothers released newly recorded version and charted. Both versions charted at the same time on the Billboard's Hot 100 separately. At that time, AT40 used the Billboard's Hot 100. Did Shadoe Stevens play the both versions every week during those songs in the top 40 simultaneously ? How about the situation on Casey's Top 40 and the Rick Dees' Weelky Top 40 ? They both used Radio & Records' chart back then.

On this week's AT10, after Foreigner's "Waiting For a Girl Like You", Mike Kasem outroed "that was a number one song on Radio & Records' pop chart in 1981." Usually Casey and his substitute hosts just say that was a number one song on the pop chart or whatsoever and never mentioned R&R. I know on AT10 and AT20, when they mention past songs' chart peak position, it is R&R's peak position, not Billboard's which original AT40 used, even though they didn't clearly mention that. A lot of old listeners know Foreigner's "Waiting For a Girl Like You" never hit #1 on AT40 (and on Billboard), peaked at #2 for 10 consecutive weeks in 1981/82. So it was reasonable to say it was a #1 hit on R&R.

On April 30,1994, the PPW era had began ,and also Radio & Records' Pop chart (CHR chart) split into two formats. Pop CHR chart and Rhythmic CHR chart. Casey's Top 40 and Rick Dees' weekly Top 40 began to use Pop CHR chart. Generally speaking, on the new Pop CHR chart, R&B songs don't get as high position as before. So Tevin Cambell's "I'm Ready" and R. Kelly's "Bump N' Grind" ranked down the chart. On the other hand, Rock songs began to chart on much higher positions as before. For example, Gin Blossoms' "Found Out about You" which falled off the top 40 few weeks earlyer suddenly re-entered at #17.

Here's the playlist for 8/22/1987. The George Michael song which suggestive title Casey rarely mentions was at #5 that week but was #3 the previous week. Anybody remember if Casey had to mention the title during his Top 3 recap from the previous week?
Casey didn't recap previous week's Top 3. He only mentioned previous week's number 1 song. During the weeks George Michael's "I Want Your Sex" on AT40, did Casey or his substitute host ever say that title ?

TEXT I've noticed recently Casey mentions chart peak positions on pop chart or AC chart of the extra songs and spot light songs. I'm happy to hear them. Back in the 80's, Casey almost always mentions chart peak positions of the extra songs and LDD songs.
But since American Top 40 revived in 1998, he hardly mentioned them. That frustrated me.
In AT10, Casey mentions chart peak positions on Radio & Records chart instead of Billboard chart which the original AT40 used.

In this week's AT20, Casey referred to the record of debuting at No.1. Casey said here in the U.S.A. it never happened before. But in Japan it is common. The Japanese duo called "Kinki Kids" has a record of debuting at No.1 with their 19 consecutive singles. Japanese chart is based only on record sales, so songs debuting at No.1 on the chart occurred easily.
I'm very surprised Casey referred to the Japanese chart.

In summer of 1992, House of Pain's Jump Around hit number 3 on Billboard's Hot 100, and probably appeared on AT 40. But it never made Radio & Records' CHR chart; thus it never heard on Casey's Top 40.

Hi, everybody ! When I was listening to the AT40 the 80's show from Sep. 13th 1986, I noticed that Casey mis-pronouced an artist name. That is Swiss duo "DOUBLE". Their song The Captain of Her Heart is at number 16. Casey said the same pronunciation as the general :Dword "double" which means twice. But according to Joel Whitburn's chart book, it should be pronouced as "doo-BLAY".
I also remember back in 1994, in Casey's Top 40, when a jazz influenced act US3's song "Cantaloop" debuted, he called them U-S-three. But the right pronunciation is "us three" ( us of we, our, us), not "U-S-three". Later when that song peaked the chart, Casey rightly called them "us three".

Hi ! That week, Casey didn't mention the most of the songs' chart movement. Gin Blossoms's "Found Out about You" suddenly re-entered at number 17,but Casey didn't say re-enter. He just said "At number 17,..."
