What year had the most songs reaching the AT40 reaches in a single year? And which year had the least?
My guess for the most: 261 in 1978.
And for the least don't include January 1995 since that was the last month of the old AT40 then hosted by Shadoe Stevens and only heard in foreign markets and not the USA where we had to settle for in the USA at that time Casey's Top 40 and Rick Dees until the second Casey AT40 revival came along in March 1998.

My guess would be 2020 for the least amount of songs. When Covid hit, the charts slowed down to a crawl.

Going by Joel Whitburn's Pop Annual, 1955 - 1999, for the AT40 era when the Hot 100 was used, 1975 had the most, 261; 1991 had the least, 208. Later years with the various other charts AT40 used may have less than 1991 as the charts were slow then. Overall, before AT40, 1966 had the most with 344. And 1996, going by the Hot 100, had the least with 140.
When Casey mentioned 1978 had 261, he was probably referring to the chart year as well as songs that began their chart run in 1977 and continued their run into the 1978 survey period. Whitburn has 235 making the top 40 in 1978.

Every year, when Christmastime is over, we get treated to Vincetime. Much more fun!
