With chart runs that typically overlapped two calendar years, timing may be right to compile a list of Billboard 45s that were ranked among the weekly Top 40 surveys for 5 or less weeks *and* missed out on AT40 airings due to preemptive year-end programming.
Here are 3 examples… *Edwin Starr’s “Stop The War Now” (Top 40 weeks: 4 … AT40 airings: 2) *Average White Band’s “School Boy Crush” (Top 40 weeks: 3 … AT40 airings: 1) *Paul McCartney’s “Girls School” (Top 40 weeks: 4 … AT40 airings: 2)
How many singles overall were short-changed of their ‘complete’ AT40 notoriety?

Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight
Was in the top 40 for 2 weeks, 70's decade end special aired the first week. And for its second, Casey had a guest host!

I thought of one:"Let's Live Together"-The Road Apples which had debuted in the countdown during the two weeks that "AT40" was counting down the top 100 of 1975-I believe it was only heard once on the countdown from 1/10/76.

Boy you know what Peteski, how about Let's Do It Again and Saturday Night, both screwed outta their only week #1 and for the Rollers it was their only #1.

Yes! Good song--it's on one of the 'Lost 45s of the '70s' CDs that I have. Don't know why I didn't buy the 45 48 years ago. It was a decent-sized airplay hit in my area.

How about Air Supply's "Two Less Lonely People In The World" from 1982-1983 (Top 40 weeks: 5...AT40 airings: 3 - Including 1 week where there was an AT40 guest host).

Lee Michaels' "Can I Get a Witness". One week at #39 in December 1971 when AT40 did a special Christmas countdown. Two years later, another Christmas show aired the only week El Chicano's "Tell Her She's Lovely" was in the top 40. (El Chicano previously charted in the top 40 in May 1970 with "Viva Tirado", and so would have made AT40 if it had debuted a couple of months earlier.)

The same 1973 AT40 Christmas show also shut out the only week for "I Can't Stand The Rain" by Ann Peebles.

Regarding "Tell Her She's Lovely": That song was huge in some areas, or at least in mine. If memory serves, it hit #1 on the top-rated top 40 station's chart for a week right around the end of '73.
