For artists with three or more #1 hits 1970-1988, who had the highest percentage of #1 hits among their Top 40 hits, 1970-88?
I see Blondie was .500, 4 for 8. That's a great batting average.
Maybe better for Wham or George Michael or Andy Gibb?

Without doing any intense research, I would guess the late, great Whitney Houston. She had nine Top 40 hits during the first Casey era (ending in August 1988); SEVEN of them went to #1. That's a batting average of .777! (If you count her tenth hit from the fall of 1988, "One Moment In Time", her average falls to .700, since it didn't hit #1. But that song hit after Shadoe took over AT40.)

Based on .300 being considered a good batting average in baseball, here are all the artists in Casey Era #1 who come in at that percentage or higher: ARTIST | TOP 40s | #1s | BATTING AVG | Whitney Houston | 9 | 7 | .778 | Tiffany | 3 | 2 | .667 | Wham!/ George Michael | 13 | 8 | .615 | Blondie | 8 | 4 | .500 | Smokey Robinson & the Miracles/ The Miracles | 4 | 2 | .500 | Labelle/ Patti LaBelle | 4 | 2 | .500 | Deniece Williams | 4 | 2 | .500 | Jennifer Warnes | 4 | 2 | .500 | The Human League | 4 | 2 | .500 | U2 | 4 | 2 | .500 | Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam | 4 | 2 | .500 | Mr. Mister | 4 | 2 | .500 | KC & the Sunshine Band/ KC | 11 | 5 | .455 | Chic | 5 | 2 | .400 | Men at Work | 5 | 2 | .400 | Andy Gibb | 8 | 3 | .375 | Andy Kim | 3 | 1 | .333 | Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds | 3 | 1 | .333 | Robert John | 3 | 1 | .333 | The Edgar Winter Group | 3 | 1 | .333 | Al Wilson | 3 | 1 | .333 | The Three Degrees | 3 | 1 | .333 | Ray Stevens/ Henhouse Five Plus Too | 3 | 1 | .333 | Bo Donaldson & the Heywoods | 3 | 1 | .333 | The Manhattans | 3 | 1 | .333 | Rose Royce | 3 | 1 | .333 | Manfred Mann's Earth Band | 3 | 1 | .333 | Bonnie Tyler | 3 | 1 | .333 | Peaches & Herb | 3 | 1 | .333 | Ready for the World | 3 | 1 | .333 | Simply Red | 3 | 1 | .333 | Cutting Crew | 3 | 1 | .333 |

5 out of the 9 top 40 hits by KC and the Sunshine Band hit #1. KC did have two hits outside the band though after this, so it depends how you count those.

Wow my guesses in Post #1 were pretty good, ummm except for the "no Whitney Houston" part.
