I have to admit, I preferred the period of July 1982 to July 1987 the best no matter how old I have been. This was always my preferred period for top 40 music, in my opinion. If you're comfortable with it, can you provide your current age?

I am 68 years old. My favorite period would have to be 1965 to 1968 but I will extend that to 1969 for this survey. Ages then would be 11 to 15. The saddest thing is that I didn't start listening to music on the radio regularly until October 1967 so I missed almost 3 years of my 5 year period. Thank goodness that my first station played lots of golden oldies going back to 1956. Being retired now (for the last 7+ years), I can listen to the radio (or computer) almost all day. Best 3 month period is easily Oct, Nov, and Dec of 1966. I listen regularly to all years between 1955 and 2022. I also listen to a radio station in England about 5 hours a week (plays mostly 1964-1994). Gotta love the variety.

Those songs just FEEL like autumn to me.

Born in early 1963. 1980 to 1984.
I was glued to the radio 1965-1991.
I was traumatized on November 30, 1991. From there on in, I listened mostly to my own cassettes, then CDs, rather than the radio.) No, I don't really attribute it all to the change in charts, it probably has something to do with the rise of gangsta rap, the inability to hear the entire top 40 in my area (central FL) and other factors.
If I could pick any five years, they would not be in a row. But, for being in a row, I must say 1980 to 1984, middle of high school to middle of college, or thereabouts.
Strangely, 1980-1984, I was not listening to top 40 pop radio primarily, or predominantly. I was listening to new wave the most, then dance, then soul, and THEN pop radio, and then AC.
I only discovered AT40 in Spring 1978, and could only listen to it regularly from August 1978 to around January 1993. Where am I going with all of this? I started playing melodies from WABC (NYC) on my toy piano (not unlike Schroeder's) in early 1965, when I was 2 years old. 1965 never feels 'old' to me, but 1964 music does.
At this point I think I listen to music from 1930-1999 more than I listen to music from 2000-the present.
Aaaaah, that's enough.
