I've had my share of life's ups and downs. But fate's been kind. The downs have been few.
Okay then, so you have NOT had your share of life's downs.
Any other examples of Casey-Era lyrical contradictions?

I thought something was amiss in "Lonely Boy" when Andrew Gold sang "She gave her a son."

In Heart's "Never," Ann Wilson instructs her lover to "hold me down and let me go." That's "and," not "or."

From the AT20 era:
Carrie Underwood -- Before He Cheats:
"I might've saved a little trouble for the next girl. 'Cause the next time that he cheats, you know it won't be on me."
Which is it, Carrie? Did you save another girl the trouble, or did he cheat again?!

We get up early and we work all day. We put our time in 'cause we like to stay up all night long.
Which is it, Joe? What are you getting up from if you stayed up all night?

Any other examples of Casey-Era lyrical contradictions? Something occurred to me - maybe when Gladys said that she'd had her share of life's ups and downs, she meant cumulatively. She'd had so many ups that the sum of the ups and downs equaled a typical sum of ups and downs at that age. So my apologies to Gladys and Jim Weatherly.

"Between Each Line Of Pain & Glory" is one of the lyrics from "Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me"-It was also the title of Gladys Knight's autobiography that was published in 1997.

Been forty days since I don't know when I just saw her with my best friend Do you know what I mean?
No, I don't know what you mean, Lee. Either you know it was forty days, or you don't know when. It can't be both!

It can't be both! Also, if it's been forty days since that date, then obviously the date was forty days ago. I think Lee is high and maybe that's what he means. And "her" might be his best friend's wife, or girlfriend, or Pat Nixon, or just about anyone. And maybe President Nixon is his best friend. Maybe the song was written by Bebe Rebozo.
