Ariana Grande will have a chance sometime in January to pull of one of the more impressive feats on American Top 40: holding down the top two positions. My question is besides the Bee Gees, who else has come close to doing it? Linda Ronstadt in 1977, Michael Jackson in 1983, Donna Summer a couple of times in 1979, Madonna in 1985, Mariah Carey on Casey's Top 40 in 1995 gave it good tries. Who else has come close to holding down the top two positions as lead artist (or in a duet) on AT or CT?
Of note: There is an outside chance Halsey in January will have the chance to have two songs in the top five (one of them as a featured artist) as well. Pretty interesting chart action at the top of American Top 40 to start off 2019!

Outkast did it in early 2004 with "Hey Ya" and "The Way You Move".

This doesn't qualify, but is an interesting chart oddity.
The November 1, 1975 survey has Elton John changing places with himself (kinda).
Island Girl jumps 8-1, while Bad Blood by Neil Sedaka featuring an uncredited Elton John falls 1-8.
His collaboration with John Lennon came close. Whatever Gets You Through The Night was at #6 the week The B i t c h Is Back peaked at #4.

Totally forgot about OutKast and the Elton ones are good. Definitely gives a glimpse of how hot Elton was at the time on the charts.
Another way to look at it, and probably the way we should look at it seeing it would be the history the current AT would use (at least from 1973 up), besides Outkast, has anyone come close to doing it from an R and R/mediabase standpoint? I have no clue if the ones I mentioned (outside of Mariah) came close from an R and R standpoint.

Ryan mentioned this in 2011 when Adam Levine had the Top 2. One with Maroon 5 and the other with Gym Class Heroes.
