Skip Haynes passed away at the age of 71 October 5, succumbing to cancer. If you look in the Billboard reference books, you probably won't see Skip's name. There is a small reference to his musical partner Mitch Aliotta. Rotary Connection, the group Mitch played in along with Minnie Riperton reached the Hot 100 in 1970, peaking at #96 with "Want You To Know". Legend has it that his other partner John Jeremiah can be linked to the #1 song of 1971. He was a good friend of Hoyt Axton, so when Chuck Negron belted out the opening line of "Joy To The World", "Jeremiah was a bullfrog!" was supposedly a shout out to John by Hoyt who was the songwriter. Skip is now reunited with Mitch (RIP 7/22/15) and John (RIP 12/5/11) in rock and roll heaven. Fans of "Guardians of the Galaxy" became familiar with Aliotta, Haynes, and Jeremiah's signature song recently. It was a favorite of writer/director James Gunn, and was included in the sequel's soundtrack released earlier this year. Written by Skip Haynes, it has been a beloved Chicago classic since 1971. It's a tribute to the road that hugs Chicago's Lake Michigan shoreline. Lake Shore Drive - Aliotta, Haynes, and JeremiahObituary

After moving away from the Chicago area 35 years ago, I've lost track of so much, including the passing of these musicians.
Without a doubt, the song "Lake Shore Drive" is one of Chicago's best kept secrets. But I'm confused. How is it possible to have 300 thumbs-down on youtube for, not only this awesome recording, but also its attached video? On the plus side, 6,000+ love it. I wonder if a Chicago radio listener ever requested this song as an AT40 long distance dedication.
"...just slippin' on by on L.S.D..."
RIP -- Aliotta, Haynes & Jeremiah.
