Tom's music nearly always reflected a slice of American Life and his satellite radio channel featured music he enjoyed--Both will be missed.
Our prayers and thoughts go out to his family.

The thing I remember most about Tom Petty is when there was a benefit concert a few days after 9/11. Tom and his band played "I Won't Back Down" with some vigor. Really liked that. RIP.

Tom Petty's music is timeless, meaningful, and thought provoking. It will be listened to and enjoyed for generations to come.
I always admired that he never forgot where he came from. Whether it was evoking memories of the Byrds in his music, reviving Del Shannon's career in the 80s, or reforming his old band Mudcrutch for a couple of releases in the last decade, he never forgot his influences or his past.
RIP Tom.

May Tom Petty rest in peace, 3 out of 5 Traveling Wilburys are now gone, so "End of the Line" (#63) is appropriate again.

Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne are left, so sad. I forgot what an amazing voice Roy Orbison had. He died young of a heart attack as well. "Handle With Care" is a great song, so underrated. Dylan, Petty, George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne's voices blended so well together. Man, this sucks. It's great to see Tom Petty #1 on iTunes, it's too bad we take these guys for granted too often.

The Tom Petty channel (#31) on SiriusXM has been featuring some great comments from all kinds of people that knew Tom in some capacity or another.
I just wonder what will be the future of the channel once the tributes are over. Hopefully there will be some effort to re-broadcast some of his shows.
Tom always featured some great tunes with some interesting comments.

In 1992, Tom Petty sent AT40 a letter along with a song, "We Need Peace in L.A". AT40 used that as a long distance dedication. The info from the cue sheets is posted below. Shadoe's reading of the letter can be found here. Also below is a song card for Tom's "Free Fallin'."
