During the run on AT40 of Elton John's live in Melbourne recording of "Candle In The Wind" in 1987/1988, wasn't there a week in which the original version from "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" was played? If so, which week was it?

Th original 1973 album cut version of" Candle In The Wind" was substituted in the week of Jan 30, 1988, it was at #9 which dropped from #6, its peak position.

OK, I thought I remembered. Was that the same week that Casey told a story about how the colors of candles symbolize something (i.e. you'll supposedly come into money if you burn a green candle, burning pink candles bring good health, and so forth). I know that that story was sometime around late January, or possibly sometime in February.

Well, this will set a record for the longest wait for a question on here to be answered. Because as you can see, the previous post in this thread was the last one in the thread until my reply here. You were right that it was a story from Jan or Feb 1988 but you were wrong that Casey told the story. It was told on 1/16/88 by Charlie Van Dyke. This info is courtesy of Pete's book which of course was years away from being published in 2004 when this question was asked. That may explain why the question was never answered along with the fact that Casey did not do the show making this show hard to come by.
(Said book is one of the five pictured!)
