Demis Roussos (1946-2015) A major act in international music scene who had only one Hot 100 entry (plus a sole Billboard 200 charted album) in the US. In fact if you browse thru any ‘Hit of the World’ page of The Billboard between 1975 and 1978, chances are you’re likely to run into one of his hit singles (not unlike other major Euro-acts ABBA or Boney M). Probably one of the top acts to have come from Greece, in the 60s Demis Roussos met Vangelis (later most famous in the early 1980s for “Chariots of Fire” and “Blade Runner” movie scores). And with other musicians they eventually formed a psychedelic rock band called Aphrodite’s Child. I cannot help but compare Demis Roussos distinct tonal voice (despite his large, plump, hairy appearance and mostly in hippy-like dress) with those early soundtrack noises that Vangelis’ electronic keyboard created in the 1970s just after Aphrodite’s Child broke up. As far as Demis Roussos hits go only one of his singles made my personal Top 40 in late 1975 (later covered by Three Degrees in '76): From Souvenirs to Souvenirs-Demis RoussosBut for intro into the above-mentioned Hot 100 entry (#47 in 1978) I let the poster of the following YouTube video talk about it: That Once in a Lifetime-Demis RoussosR.I.P.
