I really dig Hold On. I don't recall the song from its chart run, and it seems like I never hear it on classic rock or 80s stations. I pretty much know it only from these classic AT 40 airings. Poor omission from playlists, imo.
I haven't posted on the forum in a bit. My dad passed away three weeks ago, and I've been up in PA (I live in Fort Lauderdale) for services, taking care of estate issues, drinking heavily (you didn't read that), and spending time with relatives. Staying at dad's house, where he and his SO have no internet connection. And I don't have much data on my phone. I tried listening to the '85 show, but my phone connection was horrible and I'd get 10 seconds of Pat Benatar or Wham! before it went out again. Which really sucks as the last three weeks shows are right in my wheelhiuse of favorite '80s music.
Heading back to FtL tomorrow. Looking forward to some return to normalcy and the '82/'86 shows.

Gerry grew up with foster parents, his grandmother and boarding school. After a cook apprenticeship, he lived as a homeless man for some time and got to know the dark side of life with all his harshness. That he is so positive and optimistic today, with the insatiable urge to make other people happy, may have something to do with this phase of his life. The turning point in his life brought just one karaoke competition, which he won in 1995. After this first sense of achievement Gerry worked for some years as an entertainer, singer and DJ. In 1999, he became a superstar virtually overnight. 14 bands had unsuccessfully recorded the song " Anton aus Tirol" - in the version of "Anton feat. DJ Ötzi" he surprisingly shot to the top of the Austrian charts. The stong was 10 weeks at #1 and became the #1 song of 2000 in Austria. His international breakthrough came with a cover version of the song "Hey Baby". DJ Ötzi became the first Austrian to win gold and platinum in England. Unforgettable also his appearance in the legendary TV show "Top of the Pops", together with Paul McCartney and Jennifer Lopez. In 2002, DJ Ötzi celebrated a huge success, which is barely noticed in the German-speaking world. Together with the "Hermes House Band" he recorded a new version of the Opus hit "Live is Life". Over 800,000 copies of the song and it also became the official anthem of the successful football team "Stade de France". On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Elvis Presley´s death, he performs with the original Elvis band in Memphis. A most touching moment - and the highly deserved international artistic recognition. But DJ Ötzi is also interested in social issues. Despite all the successes, he has never forgotten what it´s like when things are not going so well and that´s why he supports charity projects like the "Wärmestube" in Salzburg and is ambassador of Wings for life - a foundation for spinal cord research.

11/3/84:
John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band - On the dark side Lionel Richie - Penny lover New Edition - Cool it now Paul McCartney - No more lonely nights Prince & The Revolution - Let´s go crazy
All Saints´ Day and All Souls´ Day
How times can change. In the 80s, Ö3 played regular program on All Saints´ Day and only ballads on All Souls´ Day. In recent years music by deceased artists was broadcast on All Saints´ Day under the title "Music from heaven" and regular program was broadcast on All Souls´ Day. My two editions for this week are a mixture of these two program directions.
For All Saints´ Day here´s my "music from heaven"-edition:
11/3/84:
Dan Hartman - We are the young (12/8/1950 - 3/22/1994) David Bowie - Blue Jean (1/8/1947 - 1/10/2016) Prince & The Revolution - Purple rain (6/7/1958 - 4/21/2016) The Cars - Drive (Benjamin Orr: 9/8/1947 - 10/3/2000) Wham ! - Wake me up before you go-go (George Michael: 6/25/1963 - 12/25/2016)
And for All Souls´ Day I have a "daydreamer"-edition:
11/3/84:
Corey Hart - It ain´t enough Cyndi Lauper - All through the night Dennis DeYoung - Desert moon Stevie Wonder - I just called to say I loved you The Honeydrippers - Sea of love
An Austrian extra: Dew Mitch
One of the most difficult moments for a DJ is to announce the death of a good friend. That´s what Mr Udo Huber had to do in his Ö3 hitparade on 5/22/1988. Shortly after he had announced Hansi Dujmic as "Dew Mitch" with his song "Don´t say no" moving from #25 to #19, he heard about the death of Hansi. It was one of the few Ö3 hitparades that were broadcast live and IMO one of the saddest hours of the "Udo Huber era". Udo Huber reported shortly before the Top 10 with the hint "Dew Mitch is dead. Dew Mitch was a friend of mine." He apologized several times during this hour that at the moment there was simply no more "hitparade atmosphere" for him. And this hour was probably felt to be one of the longest ever.
Dew Mitch was born in Vienna as Davor Ljubomir Johannes Dujmic on 12/30/1956. The later nationally known singer´s musical talent was already put into the cradle by his parents. On the father´s and mother´s side, numerous singers, guitarists and other artists can be found in the family tree. He grew up in Vienna together with his mother, the Hungarian Margit, daughter of a family from Bratislava and his father, Adolf Dujmic, son of a railwayman from Konjic. Despite their different origins, his parents got to know and love each other in Bratislava during World War II in 1943. Dew Mitch´s father worked both as a journalist and as a businessman in Croatia. Margit, his mother, studied opera singing at the Vienna Academy, but was not allowed to pursue her profession because of her denomination. Dew Mitch played guitar with great passion from the age of 12 and three years later passed the entrance examination for the Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where he received a scholarship for talented students for "classical guitar". His first musical success came in 1980 with his cult band "Chaos de Luxe".
In 1986, the publication of the Austropop ballad "Ausgeliefert" ("be at to the mercy of"), which is now part of the cult, finally showed the desired success. The love song dedicated to his girlfriend and later wife Brigitte made it into the top 10 of the official Austrian single charts. At the same time Dew Mitch was also successful as an actor. Despite his great success, Dew Mitch was plagued by self-doubt and depression, which drove him into heroin addiction as early as 1979. Also the definition of his acting image as "Elvis" and later as a pimp put a strain on the sensitive musician. In 1980 he underwent a withdrawal at the Vienna General Hospital, which, however, did not last forever. On the day before his death Dew Mitch had been released after a (faked) tablet poisoning. On the morning of 5/21/1988, his dead body was found in Vienna´s 15th district. The reason was a heroin overdose. Dew Mitch is buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery.
On 6/12/1988, a few weeks after his death, Dew Mitch became #1 of the Ö3 hitparade with "Don´t say no". The song also entered the official Austrian single charts at #1 on 7/1/1988:
