"They're Coming To Take Me Away" as noted above was only on the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks-Here's why:A lot of mental health professionals thought Napoleon XIV aka Jerry Samuels was ridiculing their clients-The song continues to receive airplay on "The Dr.Demento Show". I know it was banned on WABC, which was my local station, as you stated because of the mocking of mental health.

Actually WABC played "They're Coming To Take Me Away" briefly before they were forced to remove it from their playlist.

Several years ago,WABC had an annual Memorial Day special called "Rewound" & they played a sound bite of Napoleon XIV saying:"I heard them play it,I know they did".

Today's show is from 5-7-66. Surprised since it is still April, but anyway "Monday, Monday" by the Mamas and the Papas was #1. Hard to believe with all their great songs, that this was the only #1 song in their career.

Longer show today--ending at 4:23, but there were plenty of extra songs. Next week is 1960--hard to believe that is 64 years ago! #1 if Dave uses the 5-2-60 chart was "Stuck On You" by Elvis. As Mr. J mentioned previously, it was Elvis' 17th #1 and his last #1 would come 7 1/2 years later with "Suspicious Minds" in November 1969.

Elvis was discharged from the Army in 1960-"Stuck On You" was the first of his three chart toppers in 1960-The other two were "It's Now Or Never" & "Are You Lonesome Tonight"-FYI:"Good Luck Charm" was Elvis' 17th # 1 hit,not "Stuck On You".

Lou played the first Elvis hit when he did May 1956 on Fabulous 50s Flashback yesterday.

Great show from 64 years ago! Next week is 1964, and will we ever have the Brits on the show! #1 was "My Guy" from Mary Wells, assuming Dave goes with 5-16-64. She left Motown soon after this recording, and never achieved the success she had with that label.
