Dave is going with the chart of 4-21-62, and #1 would be "Good Luck Charm."

"Good Luck Charm" was Elvis Presley's 17th # 1 song-Elvis wouldn't hit the top spot again until 11/1/69-That's when "Suspicious Minds" became his 18th & final # 1 hit.

Next week is a special--The Top 40 "One Hit Wonders" of the 60's. The Singing Nun will definitely be in that countdown with "Dominque." I think Zager and Evans "In The Year 2525" will be #1. Any wagers?

Yes and corrected. At the V.A. where I was employed for 30 years, I worked with a guy whose last name was Sager--must have been on my brain. Thanks!

One of the worst songs I ever heard was on this countdown--#19 "Cinderella" by Jack Ross. I literally couldn't wait for it to end.

One of the worst songs I ever heard was on this countdown--#19 "Cinderella" by Jack Ross. I literally couldn't wait for it to end. I found it fairly entertaining as a snapshot of the time. Onehitwondersthebook.com said 'Ross, in this case, played a beatnik storyteller; in his hands, the familiar fairy tale was transformed into a jive-talkin’, pig-Latin string of titillating innuendos.' I found this to be accurate. Over time, the beatnik comedy act has aged and not well.

1960 should be featured next Saturday--hasn't been played since 2-3-24. If Dave utilizes the chart of 4-25-60, #1 was "Stuck On You."

Wrong again--that's what I get for guessing! Anyway, next week is 1966, and the likely date of the show should be 4-30-66, when the Young Rascals were at #1 with "Good Lovin'." This was the first of three #1s by the group. "Groovin" in 1967 and "People Gotta Be Free" in 1968.
Today's show is the shortest show I can recall, ending at 4:01 pm. Great show as well.
My thanks to jblues for always having the listing of the songs to gaze upon as I listen to a repeat show On Demand. Thanks so much jblues for doing this.

There were two glaring omissions on this list:"They're Coming To Take Me Away,Ha-Ha"!-Napoleon XIV (#3) from 1966 & "Mc Arthur Park"-Richard Harris (#2) from 1968-Other than that,it was a great show!

Apparently, the chart action of "They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-ha" wasn't strong enough to make the Top 40 of One Hit Wonders. It was only on the Hot 100 six weeks. Chart action: 50, 11, 5, 3, 5, 37, then off the Hot 100
I completely agree with "MacArthur Park" note the "a" in MacArthur.

"They're Coming To Take Me Away" as noted above was only on the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks-Here's why:A lot of mental health professionals thought Napoleon XIV aka Jerry Samuels was ridiculing their clients-The song continues to receive airplay on "The Dr.Demento Show".
