What movies were based on or inspired by Top 40 hits? I know quite a few were based on country hits (probably because there tend to be a lot of story songs in country music):

How about "Rhinestone" which was based on Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy".

"Jack and Diane" was John Mellencamp's biggest hit in 1982. Early this decade it was a movie title.
Another good example is the newest movie "Bohemian Rhapsody", which is about the band Queen and was released just last week as I post this.

Based on the jazz version of a 50s chart hit, "Play Misty For Me" featured Clint Eastwood as a radio DJ stalked by a psycho listener.
