Another station bites the dust. They are dropping like flies now. I've noticed in the last few years they are dropping Backtrax USA for Rick Dees or Casey's American Top 40, not that I mind but It's getting harder and harder to find stations that carry Backtrax USA. Oh well.

I used to listen to Backtrax 80s/90s on WMEE Fort Wayne station since Jan 2007 every Sunday 8PM-12AM until fall 2011; then were switched to Sunday mornings 8AM-12PM and then in first week of September 2012, they dropped the show completely. And for some strange reason on facebook page, they have not posted what songs were playin on 80s/90s. On WHTZ they used to post what songs were playin on backtrax 90s displayed on mediabase what was that song, but WHTZ dropped backtrax 90s show since late May 2014. As response several months later I haven't listened to the show since awhile last year.

They used to have a store that sold lots of cool stuff (even original CDs and cues of Backtrax shows! I have several) and song listings and a place you could hear old shows.

Oh well. Honestly I don't think that's such a huge loss at this point. From what I've heard the show's gotten stale, and most of the songs they play are in general recurrent rotation anyhow. And of course we do have Casey and (mostly online) Rick's countdowns to dig deeper into particular weeks or years than Backtrax ever did.

Does anyone know if Paul Cubby Bryant still fills in a few times a year (which I never understood, the show is recorded 6+ weeks in advance)

I used to listen to it on the former Magic 97 where I live, enjoyed it during 1998 to 2000. When Magic 97 dropped the show in January 2001, a local version of Backtrax aired on Saturday nights, and featured songs that were not aired on Backtrax USA. It remained that way until Magic 97 changed to a classic rock format called K-ROCK in February 2002. HITS-FM picked up the show around 2007, when it focused on two hours of the 80s, and two hours of the 90s. Didn't care for Backtrax USA because of the same songs over and over again, plus some songs that I hate to hear could pop up at any time without any heads-up. HITS-FM eventually dropped Backtrax USA in favor of - you guessed it - American Top 40 with Ryan Seacrest.

Why is it that you can't just turn down the radio if "Solid" or one of your other songs comes on - why is the entire show unlistenable?

WGHN started airing the show after AT40: The 80s couple weeks back.
(I listened to a little bit of it today and was amazed at how dated it it is; it's definitely a relic of a more innocent time, especially the show intro.)

BrettVW, the entire show is unlistenable because it's the same stuff played repeatedly within weeks. AT40: The 80s I do accept because there is no repetition and there are different years each week. And whenever I hear "Solid" when I am logged on to Second Life, or if I hear it on the radio nowadays, the moment I hear the female half of the duo starting off a capella, or when there is a heads up by the DJ, that's my cue to turn off the stream, and don't turn it back on until four or five minutes later. I didn't do that with Backtrax USA because it was so long ago and didn't know what to do, plus I was "addicted" to the song and it got stuck in my head as a result. I prefer to tune out the song for that reason.
The last two times I heard that song playing on Backtrax USA - in July and October 2000 respectively - I was in the car as it was playing, and I couldn't help but respect the driver's rules on both occasions. The local radio station that aired Backtrax USA dropped the show at the beginning of 2001, and just over one year later, in February 2002, the radio station switched to a classic rock format.
At least Backtrax USA never did play "Love Will Conquer All" and "Cherish" - at least during a time that I used to listen to it.

Breaks the monotony of hearing the same guy each and every week. The exception is if its like most of the AT40 ones now and have no business hosting anything.
