Since this thread on AT40’s Disappearing Acts was bumped up, I decided to do an updated Top 50 Disappearing Acts list. The survey period for my update is 1/1/1955 through 11/23/1991. The methodology is the AT40 Power Point Formula which I have explained in other threads, AT40 used it to rank their year- end countdowns in 1982, 198, 1984, and early 1990’s. This methodology is different than what was used for AT40’s 1973 and 1975 Disappearing Acts shows. The eligibility criteria is to only made the Hot 100 with one hit and never chart on the Hot 100 again. I did include a re-charting of the same recording if it was an acts only Hot 100 hit. The Best Sellers chart was used prior to the Hot 100.
There may be some instances when what was included or not is questionable. I included “We Are The World” as it was USA for Africa’s only Hot 100 hit even though the artist that recorded it all had numerous chart hits. A record I did not include was Morris Stoloff’s 1956 hit “Moonglow & Picnic”. It was his only charting single, but he was musical director for Columbia Pictures from 1936 to 1962 and he won Oscars for musical scores three times makes it hard to consider him a one hit wonder. I mention of Stoloff’s “Moonglow & Picnic” because it does have more points than “In The Year 2525”.
I will offer this as a draft version and take input on any omission or wrongful inclusions.
