Soul singer Bobby Womack has recently passed away at the age of 70. R.i.P. First it was Gerry Goffin and now it's Bobby Womack. What a shame.

Soul singer Bobby Womack has recently passed away at the age of 70. R.i.P. RIP Bobby, Rock And Roll HOFer. Very talented man; ask the Stones (It's All Over Now). He and his brothers were the subject of the first lost 60s classic post: Post by 1finemrg on Aug 25, 2013 at 10:54am
In a blatant attempt to ripoff at40petebattistini, here we go...
"The Jeffersons" and "Maude" were spinoffs from "All In The Family". "Laverne And Shirley" and "Joanie Loves Chachi" were spinoffs from "Happy Days". More recently, we've had the "CSI" and "Law and Order" franchises, and let's not forget that "NCIS" is a spinoff from "JAG".
Let's hope that this spinoff is more "NCIS" than "Joanie Loves Chachi" or "After-MASH".
Since there was no AT40 to use as a basis, I'll pick a year and start there. Feel free to add on whether it's this year or this week from a different year in the 60's. Using the same premise. Choosing songs that reached the Hot 100 or may have Bubbled Under, but missed the Top 40.
The Billboard Hot 100 from August 25, 1962 featured an R & B original by a five brother family group that would become a classic when it was covered in the 70s. A Boston band barely took it into the Top 40 in late 1971 with a version that receives plenty of airplay today. One of the brothers from the original group re-recorded the song and made it into the Top 10 smash in 1974. Lookin' For A Love - Valentinos (The Womack Brothers)...and while we're at it... It's All Over Now - Valentinos

One of the all-time music legends; and a friend to several musical heavyweights like Wilson Pickett, Sam Cooke and Jimi Hendrix. In fact it was Sam Cooke that persuaded the late Bobby to let the Rolling Stones record “It’s All Over Now”. The following tributes by Ronnie Wood of the Stones: “I’m so sad to hear about my friend Bobby Womack – the man who could make you cry when he sang has brought tears to my eyes with his passing. My heart goes out to his family & Friends and everyone who loved his music. Bobby you will be greatly missed.” More reactions (among many) from: Candi Staton: “he had a style that nobody else could ever capture". Ronald Isley: “I am sad to hear the passing of my long time friend Bobby Womack. He was a special person with a special talent. I will truly miss him.” Peter Gabriel: “"I'm very sad to learn of Bobby Womack's death ... His songs and his voice have been so much a part of the fabric of so many musical lives…He was a soul legend. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this time." Let me also introduce a couple of my favorite songs from Bobby Womack which to me showcase his talent both earlier and late in his career: Title theme from the 1972 movie : Across 110th StreetAnd from 40 years later, a great (non-single) track from his 2012 ‘The Bravest Man in the Universe’ album… StupidYes. The drum rhythmic machine has changed the sound of the music, but his ‘poetic’ soul has not changed and will stay the same in eternity.
