With all of the comments on how many (or how few) number ones have been on various AT 40's over the years, I noticed something interesting that happened on 10/12 and 10/19 of 1985. On those dates, all five of the Top five were either former, current, or future number ones.
10/12 (in order from 1-5:
Oh Sheila Money For Nothing Take On Me Saving All My Love For You Part-Time Lover
10/19:
Take On Me Saving All My Love For You Part-Time Lover Oh Sheila Miami Vice Theme
Has there been other shows where the whole top five consisted of number ones? How about top six, seven, or beyond?

This week's 70's show from 5/7/77 features a Top 5 in which every song went to #1: #1 Hotel California #2 When I Need You (next week's #1) #3 Southern Nights (last week's #1) #4 Sir Duke (#1 for 3 weeks starting 5/21) #5 Don't Leave Me This Way (#1 two weeks ago)
The chart from the 9/21/74 show had the Top 7 songs all peak at the top: #1 Can't Get Enough Of Your Love Babe #2 Rock Me Gently #3 I Honestly Love You #4 Nothing From Nothing #5 I Shot The Sheriff #6 Then Came You #7 You're Having My Baby
The first time this happened, I believe, was before AT40 started. The Top 5 for the week ending 11/19/66: #1 You Keep Me Hangin' On #2 Good Vibrations #3 Winchester Cathedral #4 Last Train To Clarksville #5 Poor Side Of Town
I am sure there are some other examples but those come to mind right now.

I found two more examples... consecutive weeks in 1975, March 15 and 22 with these songs: Black Water (dropped from #1 to #4) My Eyes Adored You (moved from #2 to #1) Lady Marmelade (moved from #3 to #2) Have You Never Been Mellow (slipped from #4 to #5) Lovin' You (jumped up from #5 to #3)

I'll bet that the 9/21/74 show probably sets the record, at least for the original Casey era. For a couple of months there in Fall '74, every #1 record seemed to inch up the Top 5 one spot at a time, stay #1 for just a single week, and then plummet out of the top 5, sometimes even the top 10!

^Yes the 9/21/74 chart is the record for most stacked #1 songs at the top of the chart. Here is the rundown of stacked #1s in the top 5 by year in the 70s and 80s.
1970-73....none 1974...2 1975...5 1976...2 1977...10 1978...none 1979...2 1980-84...none 1985...2 1986-87...none 1988...1 1989...none
So 1977 accounts for nearly half of all these situations. The 3 times it happened in the 80s have been posted above. The most consecutive weeks it occurred was 4...the last 2 weeks of 1975 and first 2 weeks of 1976. Only 2 of which were heard on an AT40 because of the year end special.

Someone double check for me, because I don't have the official charts from the seventies, but did 12/1/79 have seven number ones in the Top 10, including 1-6? That's impressive!
And thank you dukedeb for the work you put in your last post...that's impressive as well!

Just going through the charts chronologically now. Several times the top 3 were all #1 songs at the time of the show meaning the #1 song and former #1 songs at 2 and 3. But then on 10/2/82, "Jack and Diane" reached #1 displacing "Abracadabra" which fell to #2 while "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" was #3 after being on top 2 weeks prior and at #4 was "Eye of the Tiger" which had been on for 6 weeks itself. These records held their positions the next week so it happened 2 weeks in a row.

Not surprising it happened in 1974, given how many #1's there were that year and how many songs spent only a week at the top. It's almost more of a surprise that '74 didn't have more instances of this... The 10 occurrences in 1977 is strange though...wonder what that could be attributed to (if anything in particular)?

Wahoo, I think 1977 is that way because of how slowly songs descended the chart once hitting number one, at least in many instances.
I'd go through it more in-depth, but I'm too busy here at work to do so. That's my quick take on 1977, though, as an avid fan of that year.

I'll have to thumb back through the Billboard archives for instances on the Hot Country Singles chart, but it seems there were at least a few weeks where there were as many as eight future, current or former No. 1 hits in the top 10 at one time, and multiple instances of top 5's stacked with No. 1's.
It seems like late February or early March 1982 is the time that comes to mind. I'll do a little checking and see what I can come up with.
