...who gets goosebumps when Casey introduces the highest debuting song of the week? Big time goosebumps with Maxine Nightingale this week. Very exciting stuff recalling when big hits were brand new. Almost 40 years ago now. God.

That old familiar pain, like Dan Fogelberg, RIP, put it.

That old familiar pain, like Dan Fogelberg, RIP, put it. That line is intense. I love that song. It's like Taxi on steroids.

Almost 40 years ago now. God. To this day, the first hour has always been my favorite. Lots of gems. Some made the upper reaches of the chart and still get overplayed today. But others are like wild animals, not used to being on the radio since Casey counted them down back in the day. You nailed it. That's why it really frosts me that my local AT40/80s affiliate (KMXZ) does not run hour 1 of the show.

This past 1982 show was a perfect example. Some tunes still get tons of play (Don't You Want Me) but when was the last time you heard Pop Goes The Movies or Beatles Medley!

Some high-debuting songs from past springs that got my adrenaline going included:
1973 Break Up to Make Up-Stylistics (somewhere around 22) 1974 TSOP-MFSB (25) 1975 Old Days-Chicago (17) 1976 Fool to Cry-Rolling Stones (20) 1977 Theme from Rocky-Bill Conti (29) 1978 Too Much, Too Little, Too Late-Mathis/Williams 1979 Heart of glass-Blondie (26) 1980 Biggest Part of Me-Ambrosia and Hurt So Bad-Linda Ronstadt (24 and 23, both on 4-19-80)
I didn't catch the countdown every week during the '80s, but there were many examples from that decade as well.

I still get 'em! That first hour is always good, too. Getting goose bumps looking at bobbo428's list. Stylistics! MFSB! Chicago!
