A couple May 6th AT40s for me. First was from 1978 and winding down on 1989. The latter has had 5 associations with 1973 starting with Samantha Fox originally singing her current hit in a talent show as 7 year old that year, followed by the Guinness World Record for longest stand ending at 17 years that year before he played REM's "Stand", then a flashback to the top 5 from this week in 1973, followed by a snippet of David Essex' "Rock On" which was recorded that year before playing Michael Damian's version and finally mentioning that Donny Osmond has made the top 10 for the first time since that year. Of course it was a year earlier that Casey mentioned Dark Side's exploits that started in 1973.

Just finished AT40 4/27/91. Now onto CT40 5/9/92, since I prefer Radio & Records' chart to AT40's chart that year.

Just finishing 5/6/78, a show with eight number ones. No big deal. However...those eight songs span a total of 26 chart weeks, something I'm not sure was matched too many times during the Classic AT40 years.

^After hearing said show yesterday, I just finished replacing edited songs with longer versions. You know on this show, you could replace about half the songs if you don't want edited songs, cutoff songs where Casey comes in like 30 seconds before it really fades out and unedited 45 versions that you would rather hear the Lp version such as "With a Little Luck". (When that was #1 later in the month, they did play the Lp version both weeks). Funny thing, in introducing "Lay Down Sally", he said this song is so popular that there were 3 versions of it on the country chart including Eric's. Well that was one of the songs I replaced. Where did I get the longer version from? The same week's ACC show. What is wrong with this picture? An artist who has been hugely successful on one chart and basically a one hit wonder on the other. And yet the one that he is successful in has the edited version. Yes, they needed to go to 4 hours before 1978!

That's why of all the late-1970 years, 1978 is the one I play the least. I know 1977 had many chop-job shows, but it doesn't hold a candle to '78.
I'm on the CT40 from 5/4/91 now. Speaking of edits, we got about 2:20 of the 3:49 of "Bitter Tears" by INXS at 33. Ugh. Meanwhile, we got nearly 6 minutes dedicated to an R&D earlier that hour. I hated LDDs in the '80s, but with longer songs in the '90s, R&Ds really hurt.

It's almost sad to hear Casey on this 4/11/09 show, you can hear him struggling to get through each word in certain segments.

Sweet's "Love Is Like Oxygen" (which was often cut down) was preceded by a story that may have been longer than the song itself as heard on that show! That wasn't the only edited song in this show ("Lay Down Sally" was shortened too), which didn't even have any extras.

Easily one of my favorites - 5/7/77, the week with "Hotel California" atop the survey and a cool baker's dozen number one hits. Had "Dancing Queen" been able to spend one more week in the top 40, that number would have been 14. Alas, it was not able to, dropping from 27 to 45 that week then completely out of the Hot 100 the following week.

AT20 from 1/15/05 - they were still figuring out where to put the optional extras on this one, and it was a one week return of the music beds Casey talked over

Only Casey can have a cold and actually be funny in the process. On the 5/9/98 AT40, he has said things like "Chumbawumba may have "Amnesia" but I have a cold". Or "counting them down even with a cold". BTW, you think one LDD for Mother's Day was bad on the 80s show this week. How bout 3 Mother's Day LDDs? That's what happened on this show. Last one after "Gettin Jiggy Wit It". Yeah, Will Smith, one of my fave rappers.

Rap must be growing on me. I just made it through a 2003 AT40 for today's date and skipped only one song. That was Enimen, the most abrasive voice in the business. Favorite songs were all one word titles by solo women...Fighter, Stuck and Intuition. Back to back single week #1 songs this show and the previous show. How rare is that in the Soundscan era? I know that is a Billboard term. I use that word like Fritos and Kleenex.
