It's Monday, so it's the shows from the corresponding weeks in 1975 and '85. The latter is the first of four "420" countdowns to which I'll be listening this week. For the record, those are from the one listed above, as well as 1974, 1991 and 1996.
The '75 survey features Elton John at number one for a second week with "Philadelphia Freedom", which is notable because it is the first song since January to spend more than one week at the top. Of course, that song was Elton's, too, his remake of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". Favorite lesser-known hit from 4/19/75: "Walking in Rhythm" by the Blackbirds; runner-up is "Autobahn" by Kraftwerk.

The first and only week spent at the number one position on Billboard's Hot 100 for Genesis, with "Invisible Touch", of course. Right behind them - Peter Gabriel, former lead singer of the group, with "Sledgehammer". Do I even have to tell anybody what happened the next week, which set chart history?

The former also set chart history, so it was back-to-back weeks!

No...but the corresponding show I have from that week sure better deliver on that score. Moved up to early 1991 today though - 1/12 (Nelson!) and 1/26 (Star Trek!).

It's 4/20/74 now. One of my top songs of the 1970s is number one: "TSOP" by MFSB.

Onward and upward, fast-forwarding 22 years to the CT40 from 4/20/96. At 34 is one of my favorite songs from then, "In the Meantime" by Spacehog. This is one of five songs in the survey whose acts feature a pair of brothers. That has to be some kind of record.
This is actually a pretty solid show. Alanis, Natalie, Gin Blossoms, Brandy, Goo Goo Dolls, Oasis - I guess I'm a bit too harsh on 1996. With only eight CT40s in my collection, I need to get me some more countdowns from that year.

That is around the time I started picking up on pop music. Some great tunes in that one.

AT20 HAC from 6/22/02 - i'd say this time period was when that chart was at its slowest.

This morning, it's 4/26/80. Most notable: nine songs in the show are extras of some sort, whether they be the top three recap from the prior week, LDDs, or the review of the number one hits of the 1970s, or whatever.

I am on the opposite side of the 80s spectrum as you with a show that couldn't sound more different. 7/23/88 for me today, with Commentary Casey at his peak as he hosts his second to last show for ABC Watermark.
"These are the 40 hottest records of the week, how do I know? Because Billboard magazine says so" - said by Casey in almost a bitey tone during the show open

I've listened to that one. That's classic. I loved Commentary Casey, second only to Disco Casey in my book, in which Casey himself is number one, of course, with a bullet.

Commentary Casey is my favorite. Still as informative and professional as ever, but with that hint of snark and sass. And it fits the music perfectly in a way it wouldn't have in 1980 or 1981.
