This morning is 4/16/77, and if it's a show from the spring of 1977, then at least a quarter of the survey songs are number one hits. That's precisely the case with this countdown. I find myself singing (or whistling) along to a vast majority of these songs. What a great time for pop music.
Later, it's going to be 4/23/88. I pair these two years often. To me, they go well together.

I listened to CT40 from April 1992 today, the spring of my sophomore year of college.

Taking a rare trip to 1989, AT40 with Shadoe from 7/15/89 for me on this late night

This morning is 4/19/86. "For America" by Jackson Browne should be an American classic. Such a great lyric he sings in this song. "By all that I know is right, we're gonna reap what we have sewn." Prophetic words from a pop song.

Finishing up the 3/28/87 show. Quite a few countdown song edits on this show--and for some reason, many of the better songs on this show are the ones that got hacked, while the LDDs go untouched. I will never understand why Premiere doesn't edit the LDD songs more...seems like they almost never do.
Overall a pretty good show, but one of the slower spots of 1987 IMHO. I did enjoy Casey's update on Rupert Holmes, and have to admit that until now I never knew he composed "You Got It All" by the Jets...still learn something new with each one of these shows! Right now at #9 with "Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House - just a great song, one of the best of 1987.

I always am open with the fact that I am a Casey fan and rarely listen to the Shadoe years, both because I am not a fan of the music and also am not the biggest fan of the non-Casey years.
In the literal thousands of Casey shows I have heard over the years and hundreds of Seacrest shows, last night and this morning I listened to what was only my third (yes, third!) Shadoe show from start to finish. I have listened to portions and snippets of many others, but have only listened to three from 40 to 1. His debut show, the 80s Book of Records, and now 7/15/89. And for the first time, I truly enjoyed the show. His debut show just sounded weird to me, since it was Casey's jingles and felt more like a guest host gig. The 80's Book of Records had some good songs, but was overproduced and I wasn't a fan. But 7/15/89 -- I enjoyed it way more than I expected/wanted to. I liked the jingle package, Shadoe was in a good groove as host, and it was a good week on the chart.
I definitely will be picking another one out of the collection soon. I have always wanted to listen to the Top 100 of 1988.

I actually had nothing against Shadoe as host of AT40. In fact, I enjoy the later part of the year, when I get to hear him do some 1988 shows. I even sprinkle in a 1989 Shadoe show here and there, just to shake things up a little. Not that I have a ton of his shows. And, yeah - the summer of 1989 had some pretty good songs on the countdowns.
His jingle package was well done, and he had fun doing AT40, especially in his first few years, I think. I'll bet it wasn't so fun by 1992, when they were going right into songs without even having an intro from him. That was insulting.

I may pull out another Shadoe show next week. It honestly sounded better than what the WW1 shows sounded like at the time

The Top 100 is great musically (though I suspect I'm a bigger fan of 1988 than you might be), but probably the one complaint about the show IMO is there's quite a few anecdotes repeated during it that were all heard from shows while Casey was still hosting earlier in the year (and I'm not even talking about chart facts with these). Thus, you might be in for a bad version of deja vu when you get to that.

Listening to 4-9-94 with Shadoe. An interesting chart fact from this show is for the song at #16 - "I'll Remember" by Madonna. Shadoes states its the biggest mover of the 90s - up 23 notches this week. He also says it's the biggest mover on AT40 since 1982. I'll let you guess the song...
EDIT: Well done Berewyn!

AT40 from April 24, 1976.
Re: Shadoe: I actually enjoyed his style of AT40 - still, if I wanted to listen to a particular week, I'd listen to Casey or even Dees as I like both of those better. Haven't listened to a Shadoe AT40 in a while.

12/8/90, though I've been skipping around in different places based on my mood. I'm also looking through December 1990 issues of Billboard at the moment (hence why I'm listening ). BTW Shadoe Fan: This is another one where Hour 2 starts at #28. (I was like, 'wow how did I forget that?' when I looked at my notes for this show.)
