It's 3/19/88 right now and one of my favorites songs from the spring of that year, "Electric Blue" by Icehouse. This is an underrated period for music in the 1980s, IMHO. I too like "Electric Blue", but I simply love "Crazy". Fantastic song!

I gave you a "thumbs-up" mga, but had to say that I absolutely go crazy over "Crazy", too. It's one of those songs that I anxiously await being able to listen to every year when it appears on a countdown.

I'm on this date from 1977, a show from a time that I desperately wish that AT40 was four hours in length. I can't begin to list my favorite songs from this countdown.
Later, it's going to be 3/26/83. At 39, debuting, is Phil Collins with "I Don't Care Anymore". Great drumming, of course, in that song.

4-27-74 on I heart radio.
Caught an error: Outro of Midnight At The Oasis by Maria Muldaur, Casey says it moved from 35 to 28. It actually went from 28 to 22. He had the previous week's movement.

Early 1988 was the swan song, in my opinion, for the "classic" 80s sound. And Electric Blue is also one of my personal favorites.

AT20 HAC 9/15/03. I notice Casey is still referring to the chart as the "Hot 20" - I know he had abandoned that by 2004, I didn't think it even made it to 2003. Does anyone know around what time he dropped that phrase completely? I would have guessed 2001 or 2002

3/23/91 and I just heard a sadly prophetic statement. Shadoe was talking about the Voices That Care project that was a tribute to the troops in Irag for the Persian Gulf war. Said that David Foster's fiancee Linda said we not only have to think about the soldiers over there then but our children who in 10 years could be over there. Ended up being 12 years but that's close and prophetic enough for me.
There were 6 consecutive songs by female artists from #7 to #2. Wonder if that is a record. Shadoe is all about records but did not mention anything. So I guess not. Timmy T prevented a total domination at #1.

AT40 from today's date in 1989 and people had posted recently about how "The Living Years" commonly had its second verse edited out. Well, it was not edited in this show with this song reaching #1 this week. And in the process Mike Rutherford became the fifth artist to hit #1 as part of two groups, having done do previously with Genesis. The other four artists are Paul McCartney (Beatles, Wings), Rick Derringer (McCoys, Edgar Winter Group), Randy Bachman (Guess Who, BTO) and Manfred Mann (Manfred Mann and Manfred Mann's Earth Band). Yes that last one seems a bit dubious but Shadoe said that all the members had changed from the first to the second incarnation. Interesting that with the exception of Sir Paul, all of these artists hit #1 exactly once with each group.

It's the AT40 from 3/25/00, the day after I met my partner and now husband. Fifteen years already. Time here on Earth flies, even when you spend it doing things that aren't fun.
I really enjoyed the Latin takeover of the charts at the turn of the century. At number 31 right now is "Be With You" by Enrique Iglesias, his second song in the survey, as "Rhythm Divine" was still hanging on at number 40.

These kind of records/facts were the reason I kept listening to AT40 more so than Casey's Top 40 at the time. Unfortunately with all the chart inconsistency to come, a big part of AT40's charm was taken away. The second incarnation of AT40 was watered down as the chart changes kept these records from being mentioned.

Yeah duke, I know! I love the chart data. You'll notice on my shows, I try to still do it unless its a post '91 song, then I either don't mention it or if its a ridiculous amount of weeks, mention why.

The debut AT20 HAC show from 3/28/98. Hard to believe the second run of AT40 and the AT20 shows debuted 17 years ago this Saturday.
Also, this show debuted what would be the longest running jingle and theme package of any Casey show, as the AT20 theme and jingles remained unchanged until the end of the show eleven years later.
