Today it was AT20 HAC from 1/10/04, which was the first week of Ryan on AT40. Never heard this when it aired, we were Casey-less in my market for two weeks after the last AT40 with him aired on 1/3. We got AT20 HAC starting with the 1/24/04 show and had it until the end.
Also today I did AT40 8/11/84 - a year I don't mind like many. But 82-83 and 85 are noticeably better

AT40 12/8/90 - 4 debuts including Will To Power's remake of "I'm Not In Love", their 2nd (and last) Top 40 hit. Also one of Shadoe's most powerful and touching LDD's - where a uncle tries to find his orphaned niece who he tried to get custody of at one time.

I was listening to 12-7-91 for their Freddie Mercury tribute. He did get one thing wrong. He quoted a later day Queen song called Those Were The Days Of Our Lives and attributed the lyrics to Freddie, but it was drummer Roger Taylor who wrote the song. Nice tribute anyhow...

A double-header of shows from this date, 11 years apart: the AT40 from 1978 and the CT40 from 1989.
Such a pity that AT40 chose the fall of 1978 to switch to a four-hour show, as it is by far the weakest period of music for that year.

I did 12/10/77 earlier today. What a difference a year makes between the autumns of 1977 and 1978. The former is much more enjoyable musically, IMHO.
I'm halfway through 12/3/88 with the Shadoe. Five remakes highlight this countdown, including the song at the top, "Baby I Love Your Way/Freebird" by Will to Power. The number one song of 1989 was one step away from the top spot that week. We all know what that song is, do we not?

^^I'm not going to look, but rely on my memory here. That's the week "Disco Duck" was number one, right? I love the music from the fall of 1976.

You are correct Todd. Here is a little chart date factoid for all of you. During the 70s and 80s, there are only 2 dates in which Casey never did a countdown other than 2/29 which was not a chart date during that time. The first is May 2nd which was a chart date only twice in the 70s and 80s, in 1981 and 1987. Both shows on that date were guest hosted. The other such date? Well it is today's date. First time it was a chart date in the 70s and 80s was in 1977 and the show was guest hosted. Second time was in 1983 when it was guest hosted again. There was a third time that December 3 was a chart date but it was in 1988 when Casey was on his hiatus between AT40 and CT40. I am listening to one of the guest hosted shows above..12/3/83. And will hear a show from the first December 3 that Casey DID do a show, 12/3/94, later...Casey's Countdown to be specific.

And you didn't even have to listen to the end to guess what the #1 song was; Casey virtually gave it away at the beginning.

I'm into the second hour of 12/4/99. I was planning on listening to both 12/1/73 and 12/6/80 as well today, but forgot to add them to my iTouch. I'm saddened by my weakening memory.

Listening to 11/8/86--almost to the end. Just heard Cyndi's "True Colors" at #3, having dropped from #1 this week. A very good show overall--I keep waiting for this one to hit a slow spot, but the only real slow spot was at the end of hour #1 (mostly "Heartbeat" and "A Matter of Trust"). A few excellent lost/forgotten cuts from that year--"What About Love", "Freedom Overspill" and "Forever Live and Die". A few of the typical late-1986 slow AC hits, but this show is better than most other late '86 shows in that regard.
Funny thing--for anyone who has Pete's 80's book, the back cover lists a bunch of trivia questions asking in which show various things happened. I have been trying to figure out the answers to each of those questions over time. One of them is in regard to when Casey intros a song in "Val-speak". I always assumed it was for Frank Zappa's "Valley Girl", but alas...I finally discovered which act and song had that intro...and it was not for "Valley Girl"!
