It's a show from 30 years ago this week, 11/17/84, right now. My, there are some awful songs in this countdown, but compared to much of 1984, it's not bad. There's a backhanded compliment.
Later, I'll be jumping ahead precisely six years to the CT40 from 11/17/90, and after that, fast-forwarding exactly 11 more years to 11/17/2001.

I have to ask: what is it about 1984 that you don't like?

Too much crap-rock and lite-crap-rock from 1984. The international flavor seemed to have waned that year on the charts, and it stood out like a sore thumb. The 1984 year-end survey is the only such countdown I don't own from the 80s. That's how much I detest that year.
Today's selections are CT40s from 11/20/93 and 11/18/89.

That's 1000 posts Todd. Nice going! Heard that 1989 show the other day myself. I have always been perplexed by what happened with foreign artists in 1984. They were all over the chart in 1983, 85 and 86 setting records several times throughout those 3 years. But for whatever reason, they were not prevalent in 1984.

2NVR has just started AT40 show from 11/03/1979 the full four hour version. End of the show will be a treat as my all time favorite song will be on top!!!

AT10 LDD special. While it is cool to hear Casey speak about as personally as he ever did on the show, this show is not worthy of the praise it necessarily had on these forums when it aired

Wow. Post 1001 now. Thanks, dl. I've come a long way, baby. LOL
The 11/20/93 show marks likely the sixth show (at least that I've heard) in which Casey recounts the story of the "world's first DJ", Al Jarvis.

Rick Dees from 2/16/85. I *never* listen to these old Dees shows and it really strikes me how stale and campy it sounds, especially when compared with how timeless any decade of Casey sounds. These Dees shows just don't hold up for me

Going back 14 years to AT40 from November 25, 2000. Now on, #27, "Again" by Lenny Kravitz.
I picked this show, not only due to the date match-up with this week, but also upon hearing of Creed lead singer Scott Stapp's recent plight, as they had #1 with their hit "With Arms Wide Open" that week.

Yeah, its too bad about Scott. Never a big fan of theirs but its still sad.
Today I'm doing 11-28-70. Love how, at the time, everyone thought Badfinger was a Beatles alias. Great show with tons of amazing music.
Then moving up 10 years to 11-29-80.

You know I was thinking about that very thing with Badfinger(having heard all the 1970 shows) the other day when I heard the 11/26/77 show. Because Casey mentioned another band whose members were not known and had sparked rumors about being teh Beatles. Klaatu whose "Calling Planets of Interplanetary Craft" was in the countdown covered by the Carpenters.
BTW, it's one of Casey's last AT40 shows for me right now, 11/29/03.

Yeah, it was probably done, figuring that would help them get a hit.
Many thought A Horse With No Name was Neil Young at first. I'm sure that helped America's debut single.
Chad Allan & The Expressions got a boost when their record label put simply "Guess Who" on their 1965 single Shakin All Over. Took 4 more years and lineup changes but The Guess Who did well, and that first song was a hit.

Crazy that you can be broke after selling millions of records, regardless of what you think of Creed but it happens with a lot of musicians.

Yeah, but the question is always whether they wrote the songs or not. That's why many 60's bands go broke or tour with one band member or even less... Because they never got much money to begin with and it's use in commercials, TV shows, movies etc... don't get them a thing.
I know Scott wrote their hits, at least With Arms Wide Open, if not Higher and My Sacrifice...
