I will always admit I favor the 80s shows over the 70s. But 3/9/74 is a fantastic show and a high point in the decade for me for sure

Not sure I'm up for hearing the same songs twice like that. For me, it's a pair from this date in 1977 and 1983, the latter one being the 80s show last week. Casey through me a curveball in the 77 show. Said there were 5 remakes in a row. No curve there but probably the only time in AT40 history that happened. Songs were "Blue Bayou", "Surfin USA", "Swayin to the Music", "Signed Sealed Delivered" and "We're All Alone". Curveball was when he said the last song was a minor hit for Frankie Valli in 1976. For 35+ years, I have always thought of Boz Scaggs version as the only other recorded one...was on his 'Silk Degrees' Lp IIRC but not released. Did not know Frankie did the song and apparently he did it soon after Scaggs Lp came out. BTW, another of those remakes, "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" has moved 23-22-21-20-19-18 the last 6 weeks. Will get no further but it is one of two songs making a stairstep like that..the other is "Boogie Nights" which is in the middle of a 7-6-5-4-3-2 climb. 1977 is the year of such climbs with "Gonna Fly Now" having gone 7-6-5-4-3-2-1 a few months earlier.

Now on to 11/3/79, a show with seven one-word title songs. Don't know how close that is to being a record.

Not very. Not totally sure this is the record but there were 11 one word titles on the 11/6 and 11/13/82 shows. Can only hear shows at work huh! I guess the 4 shows I heard over the weekend were 4 more than you heard then. Hearing CT40 from 11/4/95 now because I could not find the 11/3/90 AT40 despite on exhaustive search of my files.
Found 11-3-90 in case anyone was worried. Yeah right!

Catching up from last weeks 11/2/85. In the station mentions, Casey named the station I listened to American Top 40 the most back in the day (WITZ Jasper, IN). I was surprised to find that last week's Premiere show from 10/29/83 mentioned the station also. Pretty good for a small town station lol.

Adam, I'm listening to 11/2/85 right now. Fun countdown, but then, I love late-1985.

I've moved on to the AT40 from 11/4/2000, which was during the Mediabase era. Does anybody know how to find Mediabase archives, or have them handy to share?

Listening to 10/16/82 at the moment--up to #15. The best and worst so far:
-A number of great songs in the first two hours between the debuts and the lost hits. -Rush at #27 with "New World Man" - I was never a Rush die-hard, but always liked their music and admired that they truly had a style all their own. This song was their only top 40 hit--I feel like I like it more with every listen. -A few fun R&B songs that I don't remember at all from when they were out: "Love Come Down", "Jump To It" and "Big Fun" -Three great songs you never hear anymore: "Hold On", "You Don't Want Me Anymore", and "Don't Fight It" -John Cougar Mellencamp's "Hurt So Good" in the 22nd and final week on the Top 40--not sure where this song ranks among 80s hits for the longest run in the top 40, but not many songs made it 20 weeks or more. Interesting that Premiere also played the show where this song debuted (5/22/82) earlier this year--wonder if that was planned or just coincidence? -One of the worst top 40 songs of the first Casey era (IMHO) - Neil Diamond's "Heartlight". I'm sure a lot of people at the time thought it was cute or sweet because it was about E.T., but I would listen to "Muscles" 30 or 40 times on repeat before having to listen to this song. It's all I can do to not change the station or fast forward through it when it comes on...

I like "Heartlight", too.
Right now, I'm on my third show of the day, this one being 11/5/77.
