I'm halfway up the chart, climbing toward the top with der Shadoe on the countdown from this date in 1990. Now playing: Number 20, Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence", one of my favorite songs of that year and favorite videos of all time. Enjoy the Silence, awesome song. I'm listening to Casey's Top 40 from 7/31/1993, over halfway up the chart myself, with Stone Temple Pilots "Plush" up four notches to #16...

The countdown from 7/31/1971, a rare venture into the early '70s for me.

There must be something in the water here where I live, besides contamination from fracking sites. I'm listening to another early-70s show, this one from 8/4/73.

I'm listening to Casey's final show the first time around on AT40, from 8/6/88.

It's the second ever David Perry hosted CT40 from this date in 1993, just 4 weeks after his first. (I think). The old radio shows site actually lists this as a Casey hosted show so I am not sure if there are other omissions. In any case, Marc Elliott had done all the guest hostings since CT40 started. Perry seems to have taken over that role mid way through 1993. Incidentally, Perry mentioned that Four Non-Blondes was fronted by Linda Perry at #40. Assuming there is no relation there esp. since he would have mentioned it if there was!

Yes. 94 and 04 are very tedious.

^Of the years in the 90's, 1994 is one of the dryer years for good top 40 music IMO. That was right in the height of the alt music fad--and IMO, alt rock was mostly where the good music was at at the time (of course, the fact that I was in college at the time probably had something to do with that, but I still followed CHR/Top 40 pretty closely at the time as well). For some reason, Rick Dees seems to O.D. on 1993 and '94 on his website.
As for 2004, I have a hard time really getting into CHR/Top 40 of the previous decade. Way too much hip hop type music mixed in. Things have have gotten much better since then.

BTW, guess I will say that I'm currently on 7/19/80 after listening to 7/14/73 and 7/16/83 before that (yes I'm that far behind). 7/16/83 was so good, I've already listened to it a second time. 7/14/73 was pretty good--summer of '73 was ripe with classic hits.
I'm currently in the middle of hour #2 of 7/19/80--show so far has been very good...

I think it's because in a weird way I felt CT40 and AT40 kind of complemented each other, especially since I just started this weekly listening method last year. CT40 which was what I considered to be the top 40 had movement, AT40 didn't and it was almost like 6 months of music in review...especially the bottom half of it. But by this time in 94 the chart movement is slow on both and it's almost like listening to the same chart twice.

1994 is definitely the worst year from the standpoint of having 2 shows that both have the new system being used and thus the molasses charts. IMO, 1993 to 1994 musically is one of the biggest dropoffs too. I would not mind molasses charts for 1993 on 2 shows for that year if the chart of CT40 were used. For AT40, I preferred the Hot 100 Airplay chart they used in 1992 to the Top 40 Radio Monitor/Mainstream chart they used in 1993 (and 1994?). As a point of reference, "Two Princes" that is maybe my least favorite #1 song of the year on AT40 during the 20th century, was at 13 on 8/7/93. On the CT40 that I heard today from that same date, it was nowhere to be found! A lot of great songs instead.

Passing time in hospital listening to AT20 Top 60 of 2000. Up next CT40 12/8/95 (David Perry), AT40 10/8/85 (Charlie Van Dyke), AT40 8/8/09 (Katy Perry) and AT40 7/8/93. Going through a guest host phase at the moment. Busy weekend ahead. I actually only discovered AT40 in early 90's as it went off air in Australia in the mid to late 80's so the early 90's shows bring back most memories for me.
