I spent the longest year of my life in Florida, and I was only there for nine full months. That goes to show you how terrible of a time I had.
Now, I can't get north enough. Pittsburgh is as south as I ever want to be again in my life. If I could do it tomorrow, I'd be in either Vermont or Maine.
Good luck, BrettVW.

I've been playing the non permanent employment game almost a year. It sucks. I was one of the "Florida is my favorite place to go on vacation so I shoukd move there" folks...followed a girl down in 08 to live in my favorite vacation destination. Leaving six years later with a great disdain for what was once my favorite place to be and the girl naturally decided to find someone else after we came.

I still enjoy the St Pete Beach tourist area. But I will not be returning to Orlando anytime soon. I'll be back in your neck of the woods in NW PA

Oh I hate St Pete. I don't go over there unless I absolutely have to or if I'm one of the 12 people going to a Rays game that night.

I remember you loved it and came down every year for vacation. I moved there once from Jacksonville and everything fell apart when I did. We all have this idea Orlando is a great place to visit and live so surely there must be awesome jobs here. Then you move and the cold hard reality is there isn't. Well, there is and you can make good $ as a career at a theme park but you have to work your way up from the bottom to do so. And the bottom doesn't pay very good. But if you do that when you are 18 and do something like the Disney college program, once you get through it you can make a really good and successful career there. At least people I knew when I lived there told me that.

"Hey, vacationing in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area is GREAT! Imagine how much fun it will be living there!" I thought it was paradise. I had a job, but it was the people I ended up being around who screwed my life up almost irreparably. Transients, ne'er-do-wells, and all-around users. The line in The Eagles' song "The Last Resort" sums up my experience there well: You call some place paradise - kiss it goodbye.

^Speaking of sports, in the 7/21/01 AT40, Casey says Jessica Simpson is from the home of baseball's Rangers, basketball's Mavericks, football's Cowboys and soccer's the Burn. An MLS reference on AT40 back when it barely registered on the sports radar screen? Wow and what about hockey's Stars who had won a championship only a couple years earlier...interesting. BTW, they are not called the Dallas Burn anymore!
