As I said I would, just started AT40 from 7/4/1992. Then, AT40 and ACC from 7/4/1998. A day with Shadoe, Casey, and Bob - can't beat that. (Well, not too bad outside of the absence of a special someone.)
Note from the 1992 show: The flashback was to 1981, which we didn't hear a countdown for - AT40 did the Beatles special that very weekend.
ETA: Just heard an LDD from the AT40 1998 show in the final hour, and it was from a man (Chris) who met a girl (Tiffany) on the Internet. He had a problem with alcohol, she came along and brightened up his life; but the girl's father didn't want any alcoholics in their family. Guessing they were both very young; especially the girl, if her father has an authoritative voice like he did. Alcohol and/or drug abuse are serious issues.
Happy Independence Day!!!

In the car, it's the Triathlon special from 7/2/1988. Later at home, AT40 from 7/8/1978.

(Surprised this thread went quiet for this long.) 4/18/81... John Lennon is still fresh in this show, including as a LDD. An impressive followup on a listener question, from some guy named Durkee... ...and while '81 isn't my favorite AT40 year, most of the songs are ones I (still) enjoy... dL

Today was the first time I had ever heard the Hall & Oates hosted show. And honestly if it had not been for the area in Rob Durkee’s book that talked about how they acted, I don’t think anyone would bat an eye. They were fine. Not nearly as polished as a professional DJ filling in but I’ve heard far worse artists and celebs doing it than the way they came across on air.

^ I agree, I liked the Hall & Oates guest-hosted show. They weren't as bad as some have made them out to be, IMO. I also have Durkee's book and remember reading about them.
Today, it's AT40 from 7/29/1978 - in keeping with all the 1978 shows. Listened to 7/8, 7/15, and 7/22 while on vacation.

I believe the problem wasn't so much the on-air performance of Hall & Oates during the AT40 show they hosted, although they deviated considerably from the format. With a matter-of-fact conversational style, there were no listener questions answered, no LDDs, no artist stories -- except when they referred to themselves.
The problem, according to Rob's book, was more internal in working (or not working) with the AT40 staff. Did you hear their program introduction? Why was there an "ahem" right after they mentioned the staff's support of the show's production. It appears to be saying something negative without saying anything.
