It's 10/7/72 this morning, and wow - talk about a fast-moving chart. Just two songs on that week's Hot 100 rode it for 20 weeks, and one of those songs wasn't the long-running number one "Alone Again (Naturally)", which tallied just 18 weeks. "Black & White" flew up to the top spot in a mere six weeks, then flew down the chart just as quickly, spending only 11 total in the 100.
Why did the chart feature such a quick turnover back then? I was two so I don't remember. LOL

AT40 from 10-11-92. TLC was at #2 for their 8th straight week with "Baby Baby Baby", blocked by Boys II Men's "End Of The Road". They were threatening the record of 10 straight weeks at #2, but fell to #4 the next week. Also in this show, Shadoe talks about going to a relief concert for Hurricane Andrew. He talked at length with no music behind him, a throwback to the Casey days. It's amazing how inconsistent the production of this show had become as the annoying looping of intros behind Shadoe is also present! Yes I noticed the looping too. Did it on Peter Cetera's song while he answered some questions during an extended intro. Ridiculous. BTW, TLC had already reached #1 so it was not the same record they were threatening. Obviously I heard this show today too.

Obviously I heard this show today too. You're right of course Duke about TLC. I did not think to look at their chart performance before the #2 streak. They spent 2 weeks at #1 before the eight weeks at #2, and then before they hit #1, they had another week at #2, so 9 non-consecutive weeks in all. They even held "End of the Road" at #2 for two weeks, so definitely not a Foreigner 1981-82 repeat here. Of course, I guess all this "record" talk is moot anyway (thanks Rick Springfield), as AT40 was not using the Hot 100 in 1992.

Just finishing up the AT40 from 10/8/1999, and how deflating to know that, after listening to such a great countdown, "Mambo No. 5" by Lou Bega occupied the top spot.
Sigh...

AT20 from 10/15/05. Biggest mover is "Wake Me Up When September Ends". That's a case of the biggest mover fitting right in with the calendar! Couple songs from Green Day in the top 10.

AT40 from October 16, 1976. I simply wanted to hear Casey introduce "Disco Duck" at #1.

Casey may have been the only one to mention all the big countdown players in AT40 at one time or another: Rick Dees here, Shadoe in the revamped AT40 after 1998, and Dick Clark, quite a few times in references to American Bandstand. I don't believe Rick ever mentioned Casey, Shadoe ever mentioned Rick, and Dick Clark mentioning any of them lol.

Dick Clark did mention Casey at least when he guest hosted AT40 in 1972 (explaining that Casey was visiting the Muscle Shoals studios.) And Rick Dees (with his cast of idiots) appeared on American Bandstand on 10/2/76.

Did Casey ever mention Ryan Seacrest? I'd guess maybe thanking him after the weeks he guest hosted in 2003 would be most likely as I doubt he got mentioned on AT20/AT10.
And Rick has mentioned Casey, I know one week in September 2004 he played a clip of Casey saying "San Luis Obispo" in the countdown challenge segment and identified his voice as by Casey.

Shadoe never mentioned Rick? Could've swore that Disco Duck appeared at least once during an AT40 Flashback segment.

Shadoe never mentioned Rick? Could've swore that Disco Duck appeared at least once during an AT40 Flashback segment. You'd think that. But the closest that ever came to happening was when 9/29/90 flashed back to 9/25/76 - the week before it hit the Top 5.

Of course, Rick often did 1976 in his flashback #1's during that time. But then again, the opportunity to introduce his own song in it must've tempted him.

It wouldn't surprise me if, conversely, ABC's rationale was to go out of their way to avoid it during the Fall seasons of the Shadoe years. For that matter, no Oct/Nov Flashback during 92, 93, or 94 went back to any time before 1977.

And Rick Dees (with his cast of idiots) appeared on American Bandstand on 10/2/76. With not one, but two ducks...one a sock puppet that "sang" the duck parts, and the other a man-sized duck (dude in a duck costume). And Rick himself with a goofy (yet very apropos for the time) mustache. A cast of idiots indeed...
