Today I have listened to this show in it's entirety. This is either the 3rd or 4th time I've heard it, but love it nonetheless. Also, this is the first time I've heard it in a real time sense of weekly having listened to each weekly broadcast leading up to it. I must say I am astounded at some higher ranking top 10 songs winding up so low in the show. Not that this is a bad thing, but just that the music was so amazing and fast moving in some cases that this happened. I am sure if I saw a list of top 10 songs during the year that didn't make it I'd be equally shocked.
Also, I noticed one mistake. When Casey intro'd "Beat It" it was apparently written out that it had spent 7 weeks at #1, that was not the case. "Billie Jean" did and "Beat It" spent 3.

I'm not sure if this is right, but didn't "Far From Over" start the show off at 100? To me that is the perfect song to start off a year end show! There is something about the 1982 and 1983 year end shows that are special to me. Maybe it's because I think Casey is hitting his prime around that time, maybe it's because of the music, probably a ton to do because they were the first two shows I listened to, but I love those two.

Yes, Frank Stallone was #100.

Another well placed song on a year end countdown was 3 Doors Down's "When I'm Gone", AT40's #1 song of 2003, and a good ending to Casey's last year of hosting AT40 (though 5 1/2 more years of AC countdowns still lay ahead.)

I listened to that show yesterday as it was 10 years ago. He hosted the first AT40 of 04 though so that wasn't the end of his AT40 run. Ironically though my local affiliate at the conclusion of his last hosted AT40 played "I'll Be Missing You." I think they did that purposely as once the show ended, the song played, and after the song they did the station ID. Usually it was aired immediately following the show.

Best of 1983 was my favorite year-end show also. That was the year I fell in love with BB and the charts and Casey. While I usually listened to Casey each week before then, I didn't really appreciate the countdown and chart action part of it all. It was early 83 that I truly became obsessed.

Listening to the Top 100 of 1983 today. I really dig '83. I listened to it last year, and had to do it again this year. I am not skipping very many, and that is not something I can say with even '86 and '87.

I’m looking forward to this since 1983 is one of my favorite years for music.
