I guess Premiere feels it's very easy to edit 'Wanna be startin' somethin'' whenever it's on AT40. Yes,some songs are easier to edit than others. And 99 percent of the people listening didn't catch it either.

I am listening to AT40: The 80's on WLS 94.7 FM Chicago this morning, and regarding the #38 song "China Girl" by David Bowie: When the original ABC/Watermark version played the show (at the time I heard this show on WLS 890 AM at the time), the "China Girl" version was the album version with a second singing of the line that goes "And when I get excited, my little China Girl says 'Oh baby, just you shut your mouth', she says, 'SHHH...", I guess Premiere removed that line as an edit to make it the 45 single version with that line only heard once.

Another song edited on AT40: The 80's 7/9/1983: "Maniac" by Michael Sembello with the second verse and chorus omitted - It wasn't that way when I heard that AT40 show originally on WLS 890 AM in 1983 and on AT40 Flashback on WZZN The Zone 94.7 FM in 2001! It's a PREMIERE EDIT as I notice!

I guess Premiere feels it's very easy to edit 'Wanna be startin' somethin'' whenever it's on AT40. Don't they usually go with the single version of the song? That one's playing time is 4:15 while the album version is about six minutes' duration (kind of like "Thriller"). EDIT: Just took another listen to the show and they did edit out parts of the single version (the verse that starts out "Billie Jean is always talkin'...", for one).

It's a PREMIERE EDIT as I notice! I noticed that too, when it was first broadcast on this series back in 2013 (I even had it noted in that version of the critique). Another song that was edited this week was "Never Gonna Let You Go" by Sergio Mendes. They linked the second and last choruses together, which were in a different key (well, the last chorus was coming from a different key anyway), making for a sloppy edit that somehow I do remember from its AT40 Flashback broadcast. Not sure if it was like that on the original broadcast, since I wasn't yet listening to AT40 back then. Oh, and let's not forget "Don't Let It End" by Styx. They shortened the first chorus, big time! It went from, "I need to tell you..." to the last "Don't let it end, I'm begging you don't let it end this way" at the end of the chorus, just before the instrumental bridge. Since that is one of my favorite songs, I think I would have noticed if that was edited on the Flashback version of the show, which I remember listening to in the car on the way to the "Fourth Of July" parade (actually on the sixth) back in 2001.

On AT40: The 80's 7/25/1987 the last line of "Living in a Box" by Living in a Box which has "I'm living in a box, I'm living in a cardboard box" a few times with a few times in the middle "I'm a living, I'm a living, I'm a living" in the middle was shortened. Premiere edit or original ABC/Watermark edit?

I'm one that usually doesn't complain about edits, but Premiere has a new version of Jeffrey Osbourne's "You Should Be Mine (The Woo Woo Song)". I'm listening to the 7-26-86 show right now on 94.5 KOOL FM, and I heard "You Should Be Edited (The Chop Chop Song)" If you come across it this weekend, this edit is as bad as Breakfast Club's "Right On Track" we all heard on an 87 show this past May. This edit is brutal. I'm not crazy about the Jeffrey Osbourne song anyway, but this edit is barely up to even a pre-October 7, 1978 standard.

On AT40: The 80's 8/6/1988 (Casey's last original run AT40 show) the second verse and chorus of "Sayin' Sorry (Don't Make it Right)" by Denise Lopez was edited out. It wasn't that way when I originally heard it on WYTZ Z95 94.7 FM Chicago back on August 7, 1988!
UPDATE: Also shortened on AT40: The 80's 8/6/1988: Pat Benatar's "All Fired Up". It also wasn't that way on the original ABC/Watermark AT40 8/6/1988 and 2001 AT40 Flashback version!

On AT40: The 80's 8/8/1981: "Double Dutch Bus" ended after the kid "youse-youse-youse-you double you dutch" rap part without getting to Frankie Smith's remaining verses. Original Watermark or Premiere edit?
