On AT40: The 80's 7/25/1987 the last line of "Living in a Box" by Living in a Box which has "I'm living in a box, I'm living in a cardboard box" a few times with a few times in the middle "I'm a living, I'm a living, I'm a living" in the middle was shortened. Premiere edit or original ABC/Watermark edit? Original edit.

A little off topic: I bet AT40 never played the part in "Money for Nothing" that goes "The little (CENSORED) in the earring and the makeup..." when it was on the chart that's taken out on all radio playings. I know AT40 played the "BULL" swear word in Isley Brothers' "Fight the Power" for its first 2 chart weeks in 1975.

AT40 played the "radio edit" 45 rpm record of Money For Nothing and not the album version. Radio edit being the term for taking offensive words or phrases out of the record that record companies gave to radio stations to play. I don't know when this started, probably late 70's or early 80's,record companies would send out the latest single from an artist and the same song was on both sides of the 45. This was to lessen the dreaded "cue burn" on records that got overly played. There are several other songs in the 70's and 80's that also were edited. Jet Airliner and Changes In Latitude come to mind.

Speaking of 8/17/1985 AT40: The 80's: The second verse and chorus of Tina Turner's "We Don't Need Another Hero" is edited out. Bet it was a Premiere edit.

It is ironic the "Fight The Power" and "Money For Nothing" songs got mentioned because I listened to each of those 45's from my collection this past weekend. I have the conventional 45 of Dire Straits' "Money For Nothing" which does contain the controversial verse. My Isley Bros. "Fight The Power" Part one 45 that I have is a White Label 45 which has a five minute unedited BS version on one side, and a bleeped out three minute version on the other side. It reminded me of the bleeped out S.O.B. on my Johnny Cash "A Boy Named Sue"/"San Quentin" 45.

I've heard many horrible edits on these AT40 shows, but the edit on this week's '70's show of "Uneasy Rider" was an absolute abomination! They went directly from "You tip your hat to the lady, son" to "saying something about the way I was dressed", leaving out the entire passage where he kicked Green Teeth and gave his BS story about him being a commie, spy, etc. I know it's a long story song, but it's pointless to completed gut the main highlight of the story. What were either the AT40 staff or the Premiere people thinking?!

Not real clearly heard, but it is in there.

And has AT40 never played the first line of "Sledgehammer" that comes before the "You can have a steam train..." line since the playing of the song on AT40 starts with the "You can have a steam train..." line? I know the 45 single version has the never heard first line before the "You can have a stream train..." line.

On AT40: The 80's 9/1/1984 I am listening to on WLS 94.7 FM Chicago this Sunday morning: In the top 3 recap for the last lines of Ghostbusters (The all "Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters!" part) they jumped after the first "WYGC? Ghostbusters" for the end of the song/last lines part to the part where Ray says "I can't hear you!" Original or Premiere edit?
