Today's cheesy LDD about Shaun Cassidy sounded like it came from a 1978 era teenager. Same with many of the early LDDs.
But as the segment wore on, they have a more uniform feel. They became much more polished.
I am wondering if someone on Casey's staff took the actual LDD and rewrote them for a more radio friendly presentation?

They had to do some wordsmithing at least, didn't they? How many times did they get a letter that had an appealing story, but was written in English that was less than radio-worthy?

Oh that's easy. Each and every letter ever sent!

I assume that what Casey read often had changes made for grammar, spelling, etc. Some letters otherwise deemed worthy of airing might have had some language deemed inappropriate to be read over radio, or written by someone with a shaky command of English.
The "Hey Deanie" letter sounded like typical teenage fan gushing (ironically, it's not much different from the "OMG plz play One Direction!" type requests that AT40 now gets online.) But it wasn't the only such dedication they got; on an only slightly more serious level, about six months later there was the one from the guy who used AT40's new feature to invite Cheryl Ladd to his prom.

Hearing the Shaun Cassidy LDD it made me think of two things 1) it sounded like it could have been written by my sister, she was a huge Shaun Cassidy fan at that point, posters, albums, we had to watch The Hardy Boys every week etc. and 2) I would hope Justin Bieber could hear that letter, Justin isn't unique, he's traveling a well worn path. Although Justin seems to following the path paved more by Leif Garrett than Shaun Cassidy.
