It was known, since Global Radio took over this station and its sisters.
If God exists, maybe they could move Casey to the mother station, Smooth Radio, but that would never happen.

Thank you Smooth 70s... For presenting AT 40 The 70s and all your other great 70s music--some of which hasn't been heard on U.S. radio stations for over 30 years.

Sadly, I did say the other day that Global weren't known for innovative radio and here is the proof.
There was zero chance that Global would allow a station to air non tested music, a show airing anything out of the norm or a playlist larger than a few hundred songs.

I'm listening to a taste of what will move into their space on the DAB system... their format is R&B/dance.
Don't despair, Britons... Premiere isn't taking this laying down. dL

The best audio streaming quality.Well, all good things must come to an end. What is Global? Some British communications conglomerate I guess.it doesn't matter. They are looking for their own interests and that's the way of the world today. We just have to keep looking for ours. We will miss Smooth 70s.

People have said Global was loosing money with Smooth 70s and, we all know, with commercial radio all is about the money.
This news of ceasing was around from ages. Now it is here. Tomorrow a new station starts , that is another story.

The best audio streaming quality.Well, all good things must come to an end. What is Global? Some British communications conglomerate I guess.it doesn't matter. They are looking for their own interests and that's the way of the world today. We just have to keep looking for ours. We will miss Smooth 70s. Global Radio are a fairly new outfit, but they have ambitions to buy up as many stations as possible. They bought a group called GCap a few years ago which itself was a merger of the GWR & Capital groups & that gave them something like 30 stations, mainly in the southern half of the UK. There is nothing wrong with trying to grow a business, it's just that Global sucks the personality out of every station and will only air a small number of songs on heavy rotation on them. The UK has far less stations in every market than the USA or Canada as a result of very poor licensing and regulation by a succession of very poor regulators. Lots of broadcasters have lost their jobs over recent years due to Global buying stations and then networking content onto them from London...all with the approval of the current regulator Ofcom. Smooth 70s was a digital only station & not on FM. They can do as they like with Digital only stations, so the complaints from listeners and the "Save Smooth 70s Facebook " accounts will be ignored by Global. Choice in the UK radio market is very limited now unless you're a teenager or woman in her 30s. Fortunately for us Brits, we can get a lot of American & Canadian stations online...although the UK authorities are now trying to stop us doing that.

Sounds like Global Radio is a euro version of Clearchannel. I personally never cared how many stations a company had. Problem became when there more than one station serving a format in a city and they owned them all. Technically there was no real competition. Now you see more and more voice tracking in various markets and all the conglomerates stations in a given format sound the same.

Tomorrow a new station starts , that is another story. Not really as Global have only just got it. GMG who owned it before probably lost money on it, but they were set up a different way Global just think a teenage audience will work better for advertisers While Oldies stations for an older audience are popular in the USA, they haven't caught on yet in the UK and they won't as long as ad agencies persist in advising stations that you can't sell to older people so forget it.

Yea Clearchannel would be a good comparison except Global are trying to dominate the markets on a national & semi-national basis
