Another hit near or at the top that missed AT40 with Patti LaBelle and a slow groover. I have now heard 6 songs by Cheryl Lynn and have yet to be disappointed. Can't have an 80s top 100 R&B listing without Luther and he has a couple. Can't top the original by the Carpenters which is my fave from Karen & Richard but still worth the listen and the B side is NOT a cover of an Aretha song despite Luther producing her prior to this...do prefer his other song several notches lower. Dazz Band and Evelyn King also had some good non-AT40 hits here. Almost forgot Cherelle's MUCH better original that Robert Palmer covered a few years later.

Another great list of songs. And I actually prefer Luther's version of "Superstar" over the original.

Another great list of songs. And I actually prefer Luther's version of "Superstar" over the original. The original is by Delaney & Bonnie. The Carpenters' version is a remake as well. I love all versions because each artist delivers this great song in a unique way. But for me, the Carpenters win this battle because I grew up with that version and purchased the single in 1971.

Another hit near or at the top that missed AT40 with Patti LaBelle and a slow groover. This song and a song about 5 years later called "If You Asked Me To" are stunningly beautiful. Two of my favorite recordings by the Godmother Of Soul. www.youtube.com/watch?v=knVxIgUPfGQ
