Singer-songwriter J.J.Cale passed away at the age of 75 on July 26th,2013 in La Jolla,CA-Cause of death was a heart attack-Although he wasn't a superstar,chances are you've heard his songs on the radio-Eric Clapton had a top forty hit with Cale's composition "After Midnight" in late 1970-Seven years later,Clapton's rendition of Cale's best known song "Cocaine" appeared on his album "Slowhand"-Finally,Lynyrd Skynyrd recorded their version of "Call Me The Breeze" which still receives airplay on classic rock stations. Cale himself had one charted single,"Crazy Mama",which peaked at #22 in early 1972-According to Wikipedia,he was booked to appear on "American Bandstand"-However,Cale declined the invitation because he wasn't allowed to bring his band & he was told he had to lip sync "Crazy Mama"-RIP,JJ,you will be missed.

Thanks for the post mrjukebox. Big fan of J J Cale. He was a very influential player in developing the "Tulsa Sound" along with Leon Russell. Some other musicians that came from that area are Phil Seymour, Dwight Twilley, and David Gates. With the exception of Gates, they all recorded for Leon Russell's Shelter label (as well as Tom Petty). There was a nice obituary in the Washington Post that gives a little insight into J J Cale.
