I noticed in a show from about September 2000 I noticed something I don't hear often on this show, being an entirely different song being played than the one actually on the chart. The song Wifey by Next debuted at #40 on the chart, but the song played instead was Whatever by Ideal, a song from June of that year that never made the top 50. I think I've heard of cases of B-sides being played instead of the scheduled song, but never something like this. Does anybody else remember any similar cases, if there are any?

As I'm sure you know shows are voice tracked meaning Casey, Shadoe, Rick, Bob, etc dont listen to the songs. They are put in after voice tracks are made by the host. This sounds like a simple case of someone put in the wrong song. I heard it happen on Backtrax USA once in 2005. The weeks backward track reveal was IIRC "photograph" by def leppard. They played "rock of ages" instead and Kid Kelly never acknowledged such.

I remember a song by Fergie , around 2004-2005 , being in 2 different positions on AT40, with Ryan.

As a side note, I remember an episode of AT40 where the AT20 version of the "Casey's Coast to Coast" bumper was used, along with an episode where he said "if you would like to write to AT20" on the AT40 show.

It happened on the 7/3/76 show when they announced the song that was number one on the 4th of July for 1938 by Ozzie Nelson, and they played the wrong song. It also happened on the 1/6/79 show when they played the wrong Andy Gibb song at number nine (I think they played "An Everlasting Love" instead of "Our Love (Don't Throw It All Away), though they did attach a note to the radio stations to inform them of the error.

So, what we learned from this is they actually cared and apologized for such then.
